Blues can do it...really?
Kenny Jackett has previous of turning things around in the final throws of the season as a winning run at Swansea brought success at the end of the 2004-05 campaign - he is seeking a repeat with Pompey.
On that occasion, coming off the back of a run of form similar to that of the Blues have been on since the turn of the year, Swansea, who had won just once in nine games in February and March, recorded six wins from the final eight games to get the job done.
Jackett has recalled that campaign and told the News he's looking for more of the same at Fratton Park as he not only looks to replicate his own achievements here - of course, 10 wins from the final 12 last season eventually landed Pompey the League Two title - as the Blues seek to overturn the four point deficit between ourselves and the top-six with 11 games to go.
He feels we can 'definitely' achieve his aims, but concedes we 'need a little bit of luck' and hints this will be needed both in terms of results - which is a given - and on the injury and suspension front so he can 'settle the side down.'
As a whole this season has been an up and down one, there's no getting away from that. I must admit there are few signs to suggest we'll be able to do enough to put together the sort of form needed to achieve a play-off spot, even if we did I remain unconvinced we're ready for another promotion...
That being said nine wins in 11 games - in all competitions - to end 2017 offers some hope, but unlike Jackett, and I do not want this to sound negative as such, I think more realistic, I cannot see this, can you?
