Slap Bang In The Middle For Pompey? I'm Not Convinced.

Slap Bang In The Middle For Pompey? I'm Not Convinced.

Time for the special computer that crunches the numbers to determine the final League One positions for the season of 2017/18.

Last season the Octopus feature was a late arrival for League 1 - it was off having its tentacles given a Brazilian for all I know.

Then again I still don't know why I call a number crunching supercomputer an Octopus but some things are probably best left unasked.

In any event here are the updated League 1 predictions for the season of 2017/18 after most sides have played at least 33 games of the campaign.

Who goes down?! Who is the current favourite to lift the title this year?

Well you don't have to guess.

With some playing 35 times in League 1 in the season of 2017/18, the current favourite to lift the title are Wigan Athletic with 107 points, they are followed by Blackburn Rovers who sit on 95 in second place.

Blackburn better Shrewsbury Town to second place by goal difference as they are tied on points.

The Play Off spots are also pretty nailed on if the predictions are to be believed - Shrewsbury Town, Rotherham United, Scunthorpe United and Charlton Athletic all beat the nearest rival.

At the other end of the table it's also pretty nailed on with Wimbledon, Rochdale, Bury and Northampton all predicted to go down. MK Dons escape the drop sitting in 20th place clear of Wimbledon by a single point.

The one thing that can't be ignored though is there is a hell of a lot of football still to be played even though we find ourselves in February and sides that have started well may fade away and others could find form as the months tick by, but this is a bit of fun - I wouldn't bet your house on it!

The predictions are a reflection on the season so far, and absolutely nothing more, and in most cases the next fixture day could cause wholesale changes to the table.

Last time we looked specifically at the predictions, the super computer had Portsmouth finishing 11th on 61 points. Now? With our indifferent run of form (WLLWL) the prediction is 12th with 60 points. Not sure I like this octopus very much as we are currently 10th with plenty still to play for position wise.

And the live by the match predictions, how do we stand now?

When I saw the squad Jackett assembled in the summer I predicted we would finish lowermid table around 16th i'm begining to think that may have been a bit optimistic.
