What to take from Blackpool
Pompey suffered another defeat - which are now becoming common at Fratton Park - when Blackpool left with the points on Saturday.
There's not too much to take from that 2-0 defeat against the Tangerines in ways of positives, but we can take some things, well, learn a few things from it, at the very least reaffirm them or put them in place.
Too many mistakes are being made defensively
Yes, you defend and attack as a team, as the cliché goes. However, more to the point both goals against Blackpool were avoidable had we defended better, individually and collectively.
Christian Burgess' slackness cost us the opening goal and allowing Clark Robertson the freedom of the area gave him all the time in the world to head the decisive second past Luke McGee.
Jamal Lowe was called upon to deliver recent, a call he said he would rise too. In fairness he is.
I've said it a few times in recent weeks but the forward is delivering and, unlike Pompey as a collective, showing consistency, which had led to his winning back-to-back Man of the Match polls on this site - he's also well set for a third.
No play-offs for Blues
Ok, there's still enough games to play and points to be gained - a phenomenal run to end last season of course not only confirmed automatic promotion but ended up winning us the League Two title - for Pompey to make it into the top-six.
But, not that we needed the weekend to confirm this as such, I think our lack of consistency should be enough to show we'll not make it into the play-offs this season. Then again, I'll again say, it isn't necessarily a bad thing as we're not ready.
