After a week of below par England performances, a diabolical showing in Israel followed by a slight improvement in Barcelona as we got our qualification bid back on track with victory over the mighty Andorra, thankfully we can get back to the real deal with Pompey this weekend when we face Fulham in the Premiership.
Last time out against Reading at the Madejski we put in a much improved performance, certainly our best away showing in sometime as we earned a 0-0 draw. I just wish we could have carried on so cursed the international break, even more so after what we witnessed. But we can now get back to business as we face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
If we still realistically harbour UEFA Cup qualification aspirations, as I still do, we have to get three points on Saturday against Fulham, especially with the busy Easter period coming up when we face United (h) on the Saturday and then Watford (a) on the Monday. Six points minimum is a must from these three games, ideally we need to come out of them unbeaten, and why shouldn't we? So seven would be great, dare we even hope for nine!
Roll on Saturday; I can't wait for 3pm to come around as Premiership football returns. I have been waiting for this since 5pm on the Saturday we faced Reading, and have constantly been thinking 'If only Richard Hughes had seen his screamer go in, instead of coming back off the post.'
