A satisfying win

A satisfying win

Aren't they all? I cannot say I've ever known of a Pompey win that wasn't satisfying...

I wasn't able to follow the game as I was at work but from the sounds of it the Blues were fair value for the points against Gillingham on Sunday, in fact we could, if not should, have scored some more having passed up some decent opportunities against the managerless Gills.

A goal from on-loan Cardiff winger Matt Kennedy seconds into the second half was enough for Pompey - patched up with several players missing to injury meaning Oli Hawkins against played in central defence and Curtis Main was given his first start of the season up top - to come away from Priestfield with a 1-0 win.

Commenting after the game Kenny Jackett was quoted by the News: 'It's very satisfying (the win). It was hard-fought and physically we really had to battle and stand up to Gillingham.'

Adding: 'We had the majority of the ball and got it into wide areas and two v one situations to our wingers who were our danger men today and I thought would do the damage.'

Obviously with patched up back four, which at least did see Nathan Thompson fit to return - playing his part in the winning goal along with Main - a clean sheet was the basis for a win and pleased the boss.

'Despite the changes again in our back four, it was a very good clean sheet and it set us up very well for the win,' concluded Jackett.

We have finally put 2 wins together, despite not playing as well as we could. Heads would have dropped when Pitman was ruled out but we have become even more clinical in front of goal.
