One too many

One too many

No, I'm not referring to my exploits from the weekend!

The arrival of Brett Pitman from Ipswich on Friday took the out and out striking options Pompey have to five - one too many for Blues boss Kenny Jackett, who is now looking to offload one.

Pitman himself announced himself with a brace against Bognor on Saturday, 24 hours after his arrival, which had also seen him captain the side at Nyewood Lane.

I think it safe to say Jackett was happy with the capture of the former Bournemouth man as are the vast majority, myself included, of us.

What the poll asked - Brett Pitman arrival?

How you voted - Happy, proven ability 94%
Meh, too soon to say 6%
Disappointed, are his best days behind him? 0%

Jackett told the News he had 'options for us up front' but knows they 'can't all play so there has to be some work at sifting out' and this will mean moving one on.

'It's good to have the options there, but we have too many now we have brought in Pitman. We have Chaplin, Curtis Main, Nicke Kabamba, while Michael Smith is coming back (from injury).'

He's also been 'very impressed' with Kal Naismith as a potential option too and feels comfortable playing Jamal Lowe and Gary Roberts in a no.10 position 'when necessary' but sees them more as 'wide area' players.

Adding: 'You are looking at quite a number of players for either three or four positions, whatever system you use. We are not close at moving on anyone at the moment, though.'

Nicke Kabamba doesn't have experience at this level but (hopefully) has something about him. Curtis Main has come back to feature prominently in pre-season and Conor Chaplin hit a 15 minute hat trick - you cannot say he's 'too good' to offload, but... Michael Smith, considering he ended the last campaign out on loan and hasn't been able to feature in the friendlies looks the odd one out doesn't he.

What the poll is asking - (I think I know) But who will be the odd one out?

Options to vote - Conor Chaplin
Nicke Kabamba
Curtis Main
Michael Smith
I actually think TWO will leave

Much as the title to the poll says I think I know who most will see as the odd one out but you never know.

It could well be Jackett moves two on if he can? So it could be more than one, perhaps a permanently and the other, Kabamba I would think, a loan, but certainly two would go if the boss has got eyes on someone else.

Fine, for a temporary option

Such is his ability Jackett decided to switch Clarke to the problematic left back spot against Blackpool - this isn't a permanent solution for the former Ipswich man though.
