Champions Review: Player by Player - Conor Chaplin

Finishing top of the league, here's a run down on the men who got us there: Conor Chaplin.

STRIKER

Conor Chaplin (Played 39 (26 as Sub) Scored 8):

Simply put, he's one of our own. A fan favourite and rightly so. Young Conor has a bagful of talent at his feet, and at times this season we saw glimpses of brilliance. The lobbed header against Wycombe was good, but that was topped by the venomous strike at Barnet. The less said about the dinked penalty the better, but he has acted maturely in the face of adversity.

When he was overlooked on several occasions he didn't whinge or moan, he got on with it and any time you see him warming up or in behind the scenes videos he always has the biggest grin on his face.

I have no doubt if played in a different system he could be a 20 a season striker, but in Cook's system we have many more threats and Conor has done a great job at bedding into this system.

I'm a huge Conor Chaplin fan, I've been fairly convinced he'll be good enough to one day play for England. But, after a bright start to the season he lost his way - and form - badly during the second half of the season. Why? Was it because he didn't get a sustained run in the side? Did the hype get to his head? Did he struggle to get to grips with Paul Cook's system? Who knows, but hopefully he'll get back to his best in League One next season - assuming he doesn't leave?!

Lowe looked good when he came on against Rochdale but his sending off resulted in a ban - this suspension didn't apply to the Checkatrade Trophy when he scored two against Fulham.
