Champions Review: Player by Player - Gary Roberts

Finishing top of the league, here's a run down on the men who got us there: Gary Roberts.

MIDFIELDER

Gary Roberts (Played 41 (10 as Sub) Scored 10):

If you don't understand that he's Paul Cook's man by now, you never will.

Robbo had a bit of mixed bag of a season. He started like a house on fire, scoring 6 goals in 6 games at one point. But confidence and form dipped a bit, and he came under some unfair criticism from some. This was harsh as he is a grafter and never gives less than 100%.

A spell out of the team only fuelled his hunger and when reintroduced he showed that he hadn't lost it, involved with some critical goals in the run in and winning his second promotion under Paul Cook.

Yep, Paul Cook's man without a doubt but thankfully, no offence to Roberts, Cookie did see sense and benched him at a time it was needed - for all concerned. He will be something of a 'luxury' in League One I reckon, but one we can afford. So, still has his part to play next season, in what will probably be his last campaign at Fratton Park, well as a player anyway? UNLESS he follows (if he goes) Cookie to Wigan?!
