Bird flies the nest

Bird flies the nest

Last season Ryan Bird was allowed to leave Pompey to join Havant and Cambridge in loan spells, but came back at the tail end of it to help our survival bid.

Problem is injury kept him out...

Still, Andy Awford decided he would give him a chance this season and he did start the season on the bench.

To be fair it is sometimes difficult to judge a player in the early weeks of the season but he did not really add too much in games he came on in and in more recent weeks he has not even made the matchday squads.

Pompey confirmed on the Pompey Site today that he has had his contract terminated by mutual consent...

Also confirmed as leaving, after his non-contract stint, was Peter Brezovan with this statement put out: 'Ryan Bird has left Pompey by mutual consent.

'The 26-year-old striker made 25 appearances for the Blues after arriving from non-league Burnham last summer.

'Goalkeeper Peter Brezovan has also departed Fratton Park following a short stint with the club.

'Portsmouth Football Club would like to thank Ryan and Peter for their services to the club and wish them well for the future.'

In many ways I cannot say that I am overly surprised that Bird has left as all in all I am not convinced that he was ever going to make it with Pompey.

This mutual exit allows him the chance to find a new club outside of the transfer window.

Perhaps he will go onto cut it in the football league, maybe a permanent move to Cambridge will happen, but if he ended up back in non-league that would not surprise me either.

I wish him well mind, as I do Brezovan who we have to thank for coming in to help out during a recent goalie crisis...

Thoughts?

Bit of a surprise about Bird but not doubt none to give him time to find a new club as a free agent. Good luck to both.
