Another Pompey win

Another Pompey win

Pre-season continued for Pompey at Thurrock on Tuesday night and the outcome was the same as it has been with all of our pre-season games to date...we won again!

Once again new signing Craig Westcarr was on target as another couple of goals took him onto 4-goals for pre-season - granted the opposition will improve, with all due respect, when it comes to the league two season but this is a positive start for the season ahead.

Have we finally found the goalscorer we have been missing?

Both his goals came in the 1st half and within 6-minutes of each other with further goals denied us after the break with both Joe Devera and Ryan Bird hitting the frame of the goal.

The drawback of the win was an injury to Bradley Tarbuck, an ankle injury within minutes of his introduction could see him sidelined for a while with him seen leaving the ground on crutches...

Pompey (4-2-3-1): Jones (Bass 75); Wynter, Webster (Chorley 60), Whatmough (Close 46), Butler (Shorey 60); Ertl (c) (Devera 60), Atangana (Hollands 60); Wallace (Barcham 46), Westcarr (Tarbuck 46 (Holmes 53)), Storey (Awford 60); Agyemang (Bird 60)

Andy Awford has chosen to look at plenty of the younger players this pre-season with him telling the News that he has been 'impressed with them all' to date with none of them 'letting anyone down'.

It definitely is an ideal time to get them involved in the squad.

Pre season results don't matter it is all about performances. I remember one season many years ago when we won all our warm up games and got relegated!!

The Walsall Low Down

Walsall's away record makes good reading for Pompey, who need to pick themselves up after last Saturday's defeat at Oxford.

Playing to Lowe's strengths

Lowe looked good when he came on against Rochdale but his sending off resulted in a ban - this suspension didn't apply to the Checkatrade Trophy when he scored two against Fulham.

Food for thought after Fulham

A sparse crowd was treated to a six goal thriller as Pompey and Fulham played out a 3-3 draw. The Blues missed the chance of a bonus point when losing the penalty shootout 4-3.
