2014/15 Pompey expectations - NZ_Portsmuff

Next up this summer to do the VP interview is NZ_Portsmuff, this is what they said...

Been a while since I have posted anything (a few years actually) got a bit to emotional with all of the shit that was happening with the club, I just started to get angry every time I read a new post, so for everyone's sake I gave it a break as the negativity was getting too much. Been watching, just not posting!

Anyway I have decided to come out of the wilderness and re-engage, so here goes!

1 - Did you enjoy the 2013/14 season?
To be perfectly honest, not really! This was for a number of reasons, after such optimism when Barker took the reins, I was gutted at how he actually performed. I am glad that a decision was made early and obviously someone with Pompey blood in his veins came in and did an epic job, long may that continue AA!

My other grumble is that I cant be there to see any games, but that's my fault!

2 - What were your highs and lows of it?
As above, Barker, Awford! end of.

3 - Did you genuinely fear relegation at any point?
Any fan being honest will have to say absolutely, when we were on the epic spiral downwards, I did wonder if we could arrest the fall, I'm so glad we were able to achieve that!

4 - Finally on 'the past' did the season fall above or below expectations?
Again I want to be perfectly honest, my gut feeling was to say that it fell below my expectation, but if I think back seriously to the start of the season, every fibre of my fabric was saying, please survive this season, bring back some stability and lets build from there! Of course I wanted and would gladly have taken more, but that's a true reflection of how I felt.

5 - What do you make of the transfer dealings - so far - incoming and outgoing?
It looks from this side of the planet that Andy Awford is doing a good job given the budgets etc, It will certainly be interesting to see how it goes this year.

6 - Where would you like us to strengthen further, if we can?
I would perhaps look at a proper centre back, someone with some good history and some real presence, but generally I'm pretty happy. I don't know a lot of the team, but have to have some faith in AA!

Bring Back Herman!!!

7 - Who would be your early tip for player of the year?
I've got my fingers crossed for Westcarr! 20 goals please!

8 - Is there a fixture(s) that you are most/least looking forward to?
Pompey V's Scum in the cup!!!!! LOL, I may even get to see that!

9 - Do you think you will do many games in 2014/15?
I am extremely confident that I will not make any games this season, unless that lottery win comes in!

10 - Finally, what are your expectations for this season?

Give these questions some thought then fire through some answers like NZ_Portsmuff has above.

10 - Finally, what are your expectations for this season?

I firmly believe that this is our time to start the march, lets make the playoffs and give it a good go, I have a real hope for promotion this season, I certainly think on paper that its a possibility, however if I'm honest I would be satisfied to be up in the top portion of the table by seasons end.

Welcome back NZ_Portsmuff, great to hear from you again - wondered where you had gone!
Cannot say I blame you 'stepping back', I think we had all been there but very much hope to see you on VP regularly again.

Done Deal - Free agent Davies arrives

No sooner had I mused the central defensive options wondering would Cookie bring in another have we announced a deal for former Accrington man Tom Davies!

No longer a midfield option

Barton played most of his football for Pompey in central defence. He came to Fratton as a central midfielder but those days are behind him, as far as Cookie is concerned.

On this day in history...1st July

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 1st July.

Good luck Ben!

In an ideal world Davies would have agreed a new deal and stayed with Pompey next season but Grimsby have been able to offer him the stability of a two-year deal we couldn't.
