Who stays? Who goes?

It has been made clear that Andy Awford is not in any hurry to bring players in.

He will take his time to bring the right players to Fratton this summer to spearhead what we will be looking to be a promotion challenge to get our of league two next season.

Obviously his first priority is to determine who stays and who goes though...

He will want to keep some of the players out of contract but others he will not, we will also see some deciding that they want to leave at the end of their deals. It is less likely but some under contract might think they have had enough too.

Therry Racon and Yassin Moutaouakil will definitely go - what I will say about View-to-a-kill is 'fair play' to him.

Why?

Despite being out of the 1st team picture since the turn of the year, or more, he was still in attendance with the squad during the lap of appreciated. I might be wrong but I cannot recall seeing Racon...

Ashley Harris and Jack Maloney will almost certainly go too.

Should Marcos Painter, Jake Jervis, Phil Smith and Ryan Bird be retained it would be a surprise.

Perhaps Smith might be retained from an experienced goalie stance but with John Sullivan still in contract he might get the nod, should Sullivan go Smith could stay.

Bird might get the option taken up on his contract, I am 50:50 at the moment - he proved with Cambridge that with service he will score, if we provide this him perhaps he will at Fratton too?

Bondz N'Gala, Nicky Shorey and Trevor Carson have the best chance of being retained I think, if Shorey and Carson are not at least offered contracts I would be very surprised.

Jed Wallace, after surprisingly staying last summer and through to the end of the season, looks destined for pastures new with us gaining a compensation fee for him as he steps up a level or two.

Finally Adam Webster has an option on his contract and you would expect that to be taken up like it was by us with Wallace last summer.

The other main decision needs to be taken with David Connolly. It might be best for all parties if some sort of compromise can be reached over the final year of his contract?

Another player or three that have contracts could be deemed 'surplus to requirements' but firstly those that will be out of contract need dealing with...

Who do you reckon we will keep, or would you like us to keep and who do you think will go, or you would like to go?

This is the area where AA has no real experience. No doubt he pick & choose within the squad but as for bringing players in, well that is where he needs help. Saying that, players what to play for him & certainly Pompey will still be the big fish in thuis small pond of a league.

I agree to a certain extent but Awfs did work as a scout remember so he must have an eye for a player, we shall see, personally I'd still very much like an experienced DoF to lead the club over the next 5 or 10 years.

its the one's under contract who decide to stay that worry me, Chorley not for me, he comes back and we leak goals again. Don't agree on Bonzo an accident waiting to happen, just like Bradley, too many below average performances. Re Painter Chorley summarised for a match on Solent and he let slip that Painters injury was career threatening I would keep Bird to see what a 2nd season could bring Smith and Sullivan can go and bring in another keeper, neither up to it We may be surprised and Wallace may sign a contract, suspect it depends if Wolves are lining up for him All in all another merry go round of a close season, not just for us, the bottom 2 divisions seem to rely on short term contracts

I would get rid of: Racon, Painter,Jervis, Smith, Harris, Maloney & Moutaouakil. I would keep: Bird, Webster, Sullivan, Bonzo, Shorey, Carson & Connolly. I would really try to keep Wallace - maybe offer him a big promotion incentive. I would try to get rid of: Barcham, Craddock & Angryman. Lastly, I would sign Francois Hollande – we haven’t had a player like him for ages.
