Players getting fit but will pitch be ok?

Players getting fit but will pitch be ok?

Joe Devera and Simon Ferry could be back in contention for Saturday`s clash with AFC Wimbledon after perhaps somewhat surprisingly returning to training this week.

Ferry of course has a long term back injury and Devera injured his knee at Exeter meaning he had to be replaced before half-term. Joe still needs a scan to assess the damage but fingers crossed it may not be as serious as concerned.

Whether boss Richie Barker though depends on several factors one of course in the state of the Fratton Park pitch.

Pitch Battle

The weather this week has, as we all know, been atrocious but at present the pitch is playable and preparations for the match are in full swing. The Dons have sold 2,000 tickets for the game which again goes to show what an attraction playing at Fratton Park is for players and supporters at this level.

However the weather forecast for the twenty four hours before the game suggests the playing surface may struggle to survive. Again strong winds and driving rain are predicted through Friday afternoon and evening and well into the following morning. I doubt the club will arrange an inspection until 9am on Saturday as the opposition are in fact the nearest to Pompey but that would not help Pompey fans with long trips like our Ed!

If I were a gambling man I would bet on the game falling foul of the weather as the forecasts have been unusually accurate and terms used such as a 'monthful of rain in two days` to me spell Washout. I do hope I am wrong though, of course.

Some are calling it the St Valentine`s Day storm let`s hope it only kisses the pitch eh!

Already decided that I am not traveling Dave...
With major rail disruptions my end at Dawlish as it is, and problems expected enroute with various others issues on trains and - in all honesty - the fact that I just 'am not feeling it' I decided after the Exeter game to have a break, shame I did not leave my ST with my cousin as someone else could have used it but hey ho...

think it will be ok as there is not continous rain up until kick off, pitch still drains well

But would we be better on a dry surface? would postponement be a blessing in disguise?

Every season has its highs and lows. The draw at home to Morecambe was a body blow for Pompey, but little did we know that the next home game against Crewe was to be our turning point.

Done and dusted - O'Brien joining Coventry

Academy graduate O'Brien, who went on to play for Barnet, Brentford and Dagenham following his release by Pompey, will leave Fratton Park again - he'll link up with Doyle at Coventry.

2016-17 Champions Review: February

A lot can change in the space of a few weeks, and with fixtures piling up in front of them, Pompey needed to find form if they were to make themselves serious contenders.
