Chorley's signing confirmed

Chorley's signing confirmed

These day when the News 'understands' something you can be pretty sure that they are right as they are in pretty tight with Pompey these days, some might say too tight perhaps...

Anyway, the reports they carried on Monday about Ben Chorley coming in proved to be correct.

His signing, on an 18-month contract, was confirmed on Monday night on The Pompey Site.

Coming to Pompey is something that he was clearly excited about, and he feels the 'only way is up' for us from now on - working with Richie Barker was also a draw for him: 'it's great to join Pompey.

'This is a fantastic football club and I think the only way is up here.

'I've played against the gaffer's former sides and I've always liked the way they went about things, trying to pass the ball out from the back.

'So I've been interested in playing for one of his teams and when he moved to Pompey that interest grew.'

He certainly speaks highly of the fans, and knows that Fratton can be 'a magical place'.

Chorley also said the right things in terms of what he will offer us, such things as 'running through walls' will always appease the Fratton natives: 'I've played at Fratton Park before with Wimbledon and Leyton Orient and, as I'm sure many people have said before, it's a magical place when the crowd get going.

'I can promise the fans that I'll do whatever I can to help turn the club's fortunes around so we can start moving up the table.

'I've been around the game for some time and will bring a fair bit of experience to the squad. I've played at Championship and League One level, so feel there is plenty for me to offer.

'I'll run through a brick wall for the side I'm playing for and will always stand up and be counted.'

Sounds very promising and if he can walk the walk of the talk he gives then he will do well for us and we will certainly take to him very quickly!

Not a player that I know much about, I must admit, but like I say he talks a good talk so welcome to Fratton Ben...

Got to say I like what he is saying, definitely saying the right things and what we would like to hear.
