'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Team news - Southend v Pompey

Its a new year tomorrow, but will it be a new Pompey?

Southend is far from the easiest start to a new year for us, Southend away is even harder but if we can perform for the full 90-minutes at Roots Hall like we did at Fratton for an hour or so back along then we have a chance...

The home side have the luxury of pretty much having a full squad to select from, they have one long-term absentee in the form of Julian Bennett but other than that it is a case of who Phil Brown will select and not who he can select.

We are not in quite such a fortunate position...

There are still enough options for Richie Barker to look at mind but Danny East has picked up another injury, after limping off in Sunday's draw with Northampton it looks as if he will join a few others on the treatment table.

Simon Ferry and Shaun Cooper - hamstring for both, Andy Barcham - thigh - and Tom Craddock - knee - are all missing.

Tomorrow will also see Trevor Carson play the final match of his loan from Bury, so it could prove to be his final game in goal for Pompey?

You would be surprised if he was not signed on a permanent basis soon after though...
