A Happy New Year

Well, well, well. Here we stand on the cusp of yet another year passing us by.

Seriously guys how frightening do you find it that this time goes so quickly, especially the older you get. Christmas was gone in the twinkle of an eye, I think we certainly know that time stands still for no mortal!

It has been yet another year of highs and lows for me personally as well as Portsmouth football club...

It has been a tough year for us here on the online Pompey community too, not just here with Vital Pompey with most Pompey forums. You get tired of the same old same old over and over. At least we do not have the repetitive nonsense of dodgy owners in the boardroom anymore.

These things can result in Pompey interest, and therefore interest in VP drifting away as a result...

Around August, September time, I will not lie to you I thought that Vital Pompey was done!

Statistically we were doing ok, but the actual interest from participating members was minimal, at best. I will not embarrass the member that kick-started a revival, and will not massage the ego of the VP journalist that has really captured the imagination of the member (you both know who you are) but we have ended the year really strong.

Granted the lead up to Christmas, and this period itself, has been quiet (as far as proper interaction between members goes) but that is to be expected at this time of year and if Pompey can improve the performances, and results, next year VP will not go far wrong!

Toast has continued to delivery, come rain of shine. The father and son team has brought us previews and reports. The quizmaster kept our brains ticking over and offered up food for thought on many a topic, not always Pompey related either. Quite how these guys have kept plodding on at times is beyond me but what a job these site journalists have done, I have chipped in as and when I can of course. As for you guys though, the members, without you we would have nothing! Perhaps the journo's make it what it wants to be but your involvement makes it what it needs to be, and is.

Pompey wise, we of course had salvation, the club was saved as the fans took official ownership of the club and the old girl herself, Fratton Park.

Positives moves have been made since this happened, changes have not always been noticed, or recognised but strides have been made to move us from the dark ages of previous owners. There has been definite improvement off the pitch; it is just a shame about what we have seen all to often on it!

2013 witnessed another relegation and as we leave this year the threat of yet another one hangs over us in 2014, it seriously does. Surely we cannot go down again, into the conference...

Can we?

Personally there have been some family tragedies, some that we would have expected to still be with us, as they were some 12-months ago, unfortunately no longer are. Problems among families have rumbled on, or in some cases found new difficulties - that is part and parcel of life though I guess.

Life really is precious and all too short, so I know that I intend to hold my ethos of 'no regrets' and 'living for now' in greater order in 2014, I admit that I had lost sight somewhat of these thoughts at times this year.

There was the incredible high of getting married though and that, more than 6-months ago already, was the greatest day of my life. Who knows perhaps a day in 2014 will replace that when something a little smaller, but nevertheless just as wonderful, actually more so, comes along...

I think we all deserve something more from Pompey in 2014 and I have confidence in the whole package at Fratton Park, as I do the VP set-up, from bottom to top to make this possible.

Whatever this year has brought you I genuinely mean it when I say, from myself and on behalf of the rest of the VP team, I hope that 2014 is a cracking one for us all!

Happy new year guys...

Happy New Year to the team and all members. I hope you all stay healthy and happy.
Happy New Year all!! Toast will be back really soon.
Happy new year to you all. Not convinced it will be that great on the pitch, a relegation battle for the forthcomming months.
Happy new year all... Agree Matt, but I think we (well I hope) that we will see much more fight and a battle for the rest of the season, which will make it a better one.
