'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Once again the name of Portsmouth Football Club has been dragged through the mud...

All the hard work, effort and commitment of the masses to prise out the unsavoury element that had almost killed this club was seeing us rebuild and regroup - granted on the pitch it has been every inch the struggle that it was feared it could be, but we were building a good reputation for this great club again.

We, or the club, have nothing to be ashamed of as we have done nothing wrong but the shocking, and disgusting, accusations that Sam Sodje took a bung have soiled us...

Yet again!

The weekend claims were that Sodje took a 70,000 cash bribe to get sent off in our game with Oldham last season.

Getting sent off for a totally reckless, needless and senseless act of repeatedly punching an opponent in the never regions certainly achieved this, and leaves us feeling as though such actions have been handed out to us once more...

The Sunday Sun's undercover reporter caught him on film saying: 'I had to do it because the referee wasn't booking me.

'Someone kicked, tackled someone and I went, 'Ah, this is the chance' and I just ran in there. The guy didn't say nothing - I just started punching him. Everyone happy.'

Yep, 'everyone happy' eh Mr Sodje, even though you found yourself 10,000 down due to the fine you got for the sending off...

I am sure that all the hardworking, loyal, genuine and honest club employees at that time that were fighting to save this club were 'happy' with your actions!

I bet those of a likewise standing (hardworking, loyal, genuine and honest) that had to lose their jobs during some tough, tough times would also be 'happy' eh!

At that time money was so tight, every penny that could be saved, or earned, was precious. Shysters were meant to be a thing of the past at that juncture but he was one who, having been given a chance that no one else was giving him (lets not forget), repays us in such a way...

To think that he offered a real 'heartfelt' apology to all his teammates, and the fans, following these actions too.

Betting syndicate scams are seemingly becoming more and more a problem in the game, fortunately these are gradually being found but it does little to enhance the views that many have of the modern day footballer or football itself does it...

Personally my own love of the 'beautiful game' has been battered time and time again, match-fixing allegations had tarnished this again, but to have it happen on your own doorstep is particularly painful.

I was one of those that wanted him back this season, boy am I glad that we did not manage this and I hope that he gets everything that he deserves now.

We are disgusted with him, his former teammates have spoken in droves about their 'disappointment' and Guy Whittingham (who I feel especially sad for), who was basically hamstrung anyway, had to content with (and rely on) someone like that! He was 'sickened' by the revelations.

I, as I am sure we all are, am left absolutely gutted by this but now we have to see if the club faces any punishment for this?

You would like to think that the actions of a rogue employee will not be held against us, but how often does a retrospective punishment get handed out to the organisation that employs such people, even if they are not in the least bit to blame...

Even if, as you would hope is the case, no punishment is given to Portsmouth Football Club our name has once again been soiled by someone that should be labelled as we do our south coast rivals, Scum!

Well said Rug and the rest of what I am thinking is beyond comment!
May be we should look to get the wages back from him. What can you say, a total waste of space, anything else I would like to say is as expected unprintable.

I could not agree more Rug, these people are the lowest of the low, they get paid a decent wage yet it is stil not enough, pure greed and now I am expecteing the FA to try to doc us more points or issue a fine to the club. Can the club not sue him for defamation of character and get him to pay his wages back to the club.
An apology would be good. If we managed to get some of his wages back, I guess it would make a change for us to make some money out of the dubious characters and crooks who have been involved with us recently.
khodgkins.. re the suing of him .. I had exactly the same thoughts ... We've had enough mud thrown at our club.. could it be time to throw some back rather than let is stick
