It is early days in the season for Pompey, and for our goalies Phil Smith and John Sullivan.
Although it is hard to judge, and make a decision so soon, who would you think should be our no.1 at the moment?
Goalie is a crazy, and sometimes thankless, position to be in!
Mistakes that you make are highlighted time and time again and these mistakes usually result in goals - when they do they are highlighted even more and can sometimes prove all the more costly...
Who would be a goalie?
I tried when I played at times, and loved the limelight and praise of leaping around making flying 'hollywood' saves but did not fancy it as the way forward. I liked being a striker too, but eventually realised that I was a defender. Centrally would have been the eventual outcome I reckon, but for having to give up, but played as a fullback.
Yet I do digress and enough of the trip down memory lane...
There was some confusion between Smith and the defence at the weekend, was it Smith's fault, the defenders or a combination of the lot that resulted in Mansfield's equaliser?
I am not sure but it did seem quite a clanger by Smith.
We have only seen Sullivan, competitively, once.
He was beaten four times by Oxford. Could he have done better with some of the goals or not?
Again I am not sure.
There is plenty of talk about us needing a settled back four, we cannot keep chopping and changing and need to preserve - fitness and suspensions permitting - with the same people for a sustained run of games.
Is there an argument for the same being the case with the goalie...
If so which one is the no.1 we should really be looking to go with, or does Smith have that nailed down already perhaps.
What are your views guys, who would be your no.1 having now seen both in action, albeit briefly in Sullivan's case, for us?
