Looking for more but not expecting too much

The title 'looking for more but not expecting too much' seems as though it could be referring to the same thing doesn't it?

In actual fact it is two different things!

Having, to all intent and purpose, brought in a new squad this summer Guy Whittingham has not ruled out more signings, in fact he has told BBC Radio Solent that he is keen to add to the 9 additions so far.

The door remains open to Rocha John Rocha to return, although Whittingham has said that the central defender he would like to bring is would ideally be someone that 'knows the division' - clearly that does not apply with RJR.

Also high on his priority list is a 'box-to-box central midfielder'.

If Whittingham is able to find people that tick the boxes he wants I would not bet against him being able to convince them that Fratton is the place to be!

As far as the 'not expecting too much' thoughts go, these were also shared by Whittingham but not as far as player recruitment goes...

He wants expectation of what we can achieve this season to remain in-check.

Potentially we could do well, we seem well set-up to do this but nothing should be taken for granted and anyone thinking we will 'stroll' this division needs to have a long hard think about what they are expecting.

In all honesty I do not think it is overly optimistic to think that we can be challenging for the play-off positions, and perhaps automatic promotion is possible but lets not assume anything will be happening!

As my father-in-law tells me we all know that assumption is, right?

The mother of all f**k ups...
