Grab that chance

Grab that chance

I love pre-season, all the talk about players coming in - and not so much going out for a change with us at the moment! - is part and parcel of it.

As is players coming in on trial.

Perhaps the amount of 'trialists' that had been involved for us in recent years were a little more than we would have wanted though!

With Guy Whittingham having made early moves to secure most the players he wants there is still a bit of scope for a little bit of tweaking here and there, and this includes the chance for a couple of trialists to 'grab a chance.'

Joining the 1st team for pre-season training on Monday will be non-leaguers Michael Bryan and Ryan Bird.

Bryan, a winger was with Corby last season has previous with QPR and Watford. As he developed he also gained international caps at youth level with Northern Ireland too so has something about him.

Having already had a trial with Pompey last season 24-year-old Burnham striker Bird, who scored 41-goals last season, has been given another chance. Ok, it is a lower level but the goals are the same size and he sure knows where this is!

We have nothing to lose by taking a look at them and everything to gain, with the same to be said of the two attacking players as well! It is down to them to make the most of their opportunity and see what it brings them.

Another that 'might' still be involved is Rocha John Rocha, an answer on a new contract still has not come though.

Liam Walker is another of last seasons squad that may still be with us, and he is still hoping to earn a new deal - he is effectively another trialist this summer though...
