Holmes outcome this week

The pursuit of Ricky Holmes goes back a long way than just 'the past few weeks', when this has come out into the public mainstream media.

Guy Whittingham has revealed that as far back as last season he organised going to a Barnet game to watch the winger, although he missed that game through injury!

He also told The News about how he had 'made enquires' before the end of last season and even though a foot injury has sidelined him since February he had seen 'enough DVD's' of the 25-year-old too to make up his mind he is keen on him.

Holmes, and his representatives, have already spoken to Pompey and further talks will take place this week but the most encouraging thing as far as Whittingham is concerned is that the player wants to join Pompey, these are the players he wants and it appears moves elsewhere have been fended off in order to try and secure a contract at Fratton?

That foot injury could be a problem though, definitely in our position we have to make sure that this is going to be ok going forward - if continued medicals suggest we are not risking too much then his arrival could well be confirmed this week?

Certainly 'clarification' as to what is going to happen with Holmes and Pompey is something Whittingham expects to be clearer this week...

Another winger and a central midfielder are key in Whittingham's eyes as areas he wants to fill in a squad very close to being finalised anyway, and Holmes fits the winger bill!

In an article I wrote earlier this week I suggested that we were still a little light in midfield so would like to see a central player brought in, and if/when we do we will be just about done because any other gaps can, and will, be plugged by the exciting young talent we have coming through the academy winners from last season.
