Sullivan brought in to replace Eastwood

The surprise departure of Simon Eastwood, for Blackburn, earlier this week had left an opening in the goalkeeping department for Pompey - and it has not taken long for this vacancy to be filled!

When the name John Sullivan is mentioned, many of a certain age group will automatically think Del Boy and Rodney Trotter from Only Fools and Horses fame.

Although there is little comedy about our latest keeper, whereas some down the years have been very much clowns!

It looked as though Sullivan would turn a loan spell into a permanent move to Wimbledon, following his release from Charlton, but the lure of Pompey proved too much for him - telling The Pompey Site, he said: 'Pompey is definitely the biggest club of my career.

'I am coming here with one aim - to play and help the club get promoted to where they need to be.'

Credit was given to Wimbledon for giving him the platform he needed last season to play 1st team football but Fratton is where he wanted to be...

Now that he is a Pompey player, having signed a 2-year contract, he is looking to finally establish himself as a no.1 having not quite ever really being able to do so previously: 'I was down at Wimbledon for the final part of last season. It's a great club and I owe them so much but this is a great opportunity to come to a big club at the start of a new project.

'As soon as I heard of Pompey's interest, it was an easy decision. This is where I wanted to come.

'I have been at big clubs like Brighton, Millwall and Charlton, but never cemented myself as number one. I'm coming with the attitude that, at the age of 25, I want to play, although I know it's not going to be as easy as that.

'I have competition at the club and so it's very much up to me to do the business and prove myself.'

Sullivan is a decent keeper, I have seen him a few times and he has always done ok.

He is also at a good age, still not in his prime really for a keeper but he should be coming towards it and I have little doubt that he will do well.
