Well, the vultures have been circling around Fratton Park for many a year really with them, just waiting for Pompey to die it would seem!
Although few of these scavengers have actually circled in recent times looking to take players, 'genuine talented ones', from this club - even fewer for money that is representative of their true worth.
Such is our position at this moment that a few of our younger players are, apparently, being watched in the hope of 'landing a bargain'.
The sky sports 'understanding' of one such player is that Dan Butler is gaining advancing views from 'a number of premier league clubs' with Pompey 'bracing themselves for bids', and 'minimal fee' bids at that...
Is the 18-year-old topflight material?
Personally I think it is too soon to tell just what Butler's future will bring, he is very raw and still clearly learning but he does show those glimpses of a player that has something about him. He is easily league one standard at this juncture, and definitely a cut above league two, which is where we are headed.
He was certainly given a real roasting, in particular the 1st half, against Colchester I know that much - although that is all part of the learning curve.
Given the limited times we have seen him I am not entirely convinced if he is a topflight player in the making, although scouts - if sky sports 'understand' correctly, which they often do not! - from premier league clubs would not be wrong would they!
Obviously the transfer window has closed, that does not stop deals from being agreed though does it.
'If' Butler is to become another to leave us lets just hope we get as much as possible to help towards our future, and that it would be a fair reflection of potential ability...
