'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Deadline day a non event

In the years gone past Pompey would be big spenders on 31 January. This year of course however it was time to get the Tesco Clubcard out and use the points. Sadly though even that cupboard was bare!

Today of course should have been the day when the High Court decided what the value of Fratton Park was and as a result whether the Pompey Trust could afford to buy the club out of administration. That has now been deferred an another date 14 February has been set - let`s hope the Judge wants Pompey fans to love him after his decision - for those who had forgotten the day is St Valentine`s Day.

Pompey spent their last day training at the temporary facilities at Eastleigh today. With them they had a number of trialists as Guy attempted to fill the last three vacant spots it his twenty man squad.

The aim is to get players in who can do a job as cheaply as possible, the vast majority of whom will have to be free agents. Even when the window shuts tonight, Pompey can still make emergency loans and sign free agents.

Those trialists according to the News included Alassane N'Diaye who will remain on trial with Pompey with a view to joining the club at a later date. N`Diaye is a giant midfield player who made an impact at Crystal Palace before moving to Barnet and more recently Hayes and Yeading.

Hayes and Yeading are the same club that recent recruit Yassin Moutaouakil signed from. That deal I gather has rather upset FA Cup giant killers Luton Town who believed he was going to move to Kenilworth Road.

I did spot one name from the past in the moves today. That is Valery Mezague and he has joined Bury on a non contract basis.

One chuckle I also had was text messages going around saying 'Beckham to become a Saint!` The fans up the road got excited but of course it was the Pompey fans joke about Becks signing for Paris Saint Germain!

I doubt that there will be any other signings tonight but then, heh, this is Portsmouth Football Club you know.
