'If It's Football, It's Vital'

For once Pompey benefit

How many times over the years has the dreaded 'sell-on clause' worked against Pompey?

Countless times big money transfer fees of the past saw us have to pass on payments to clubs these players came in from originally, often large percentages too!

Add the countless times we have also let players go but NOT included a sell-on fee, although we did with Matty Ritchie and have brought in a small amount as a result.

Swindon sold him to Bournemouth this week, for a bargain price, and this has seen us gain a reported 30%, which after fees etc. amounts to something like £40,000... Yep, not a lot but as things stand it all helps.

The debate as to 'should he have ever been allowed to leave' will rumble on and on, even had he not been shipped out when he was I have little doubt that he would have been sold in the intervening years anyway!

Speaking of players going, 'word on the street' has it that Jed Wallace could be sold before the transfer window closes today?

Players come and go, I am sure we have pretty much all long since accepted this and do not feel too much with it anymore but I must say that I would feel a little disappointed should a player that is meant to be 'our future' is also moving on.

Many question what future we have as a club, once these future players are moved on then exactly what future do we have...

Always a shame he was sold & no doubt the small kick back we get is good, nothing to the amount we should have got for him. Asmir Begovic could be sold by Stoke, another player sold for peanuts, wonder if we built in a sell on clause with him?!!!

I was discussing the same thing on Tuesday evening. The conclusion was that we have generally been incredibly stupid in our transfer dealings so probably not. The Matt Richie thing has made me reconsider though. Half a mill would be really useful.
