Russell does a runner

Russell does a runner

Slightly surprisingly, as I got the impression he wanted to stay, Darrel Russell has decided he wants to move onto 'bigger and better things' than Pompey...

His latest, and what will prove to be his last, contract Pompey was due to contract expire tomorrow but he decided to reject a new offer and has now left Fratton.

A desire to 'win things' has seen the 32-year-old decide his future belongs somewhere else.

I am not quite sure who he thinks will be picking him up to give him this chance - perhaps he already knows something we do not and has a club, that could be pushing for promotion in this, or another league, already? - but he clearly seems to think highly of himself!

Apparently he is 'going backwards' with Pompey - ok to be fair as a club we are doing this but sometimes (maybe I am being too optimistic) you have to go backwards to go forwards - and cannot let his career head in such a way...

What Russell lacked in quality, to be fair he has decent ability, he made up for with effort and commitment but if he is not 100% committed to being here (which clearly he could not have been of late if he was thinking of leaving anyway!) it is best he move on and someone that would be is.

Hey ho, if someone does not want to be here I do not want them here, no matter who they are, and as far as Russell goes - as much as I liked him - he was nothing spectacular and most definitely not one to be getting too worked up at losing...

I think Russell was poor for the whole season, unfortunately, against Hartlepool I thought he looked more like a footballer and less like a bag of potatoes. I decided that maybe he's happier playing with decent kids than the carp losers we've been saddled with. Now he's buggered off. Promotion with Forest Green, perhaps?

I don't know why any player wants to come to Pompey on monthly contracts unless they're desperate for work. The atmosphere in the dressing room must be the pits. If I had the choice of Pompey or a settled career with Forest Green I'd choose the latter :-(

Compare it to temp work for a big company that crashing or a full time job with a smaller local firm!!!

Not any old forest green -no- the MIGHTY forest green ! Obviously didn't think anyone else in our league was going to " swoop" for him.

Evans - Right back or right midfield?

Drew Talbot and Adam Buxton are fit but Gareth Evans continues to fill in at right back. Should this change? If so where would it leave the battle between Evans and Carl Baker?
