Football league issue deadline

Football league issue deadline

Many of us have questioned if Pompey would be able to go into another season STILL in administration?

Well, the answer - which most of us seemed to think we knew the answer to - has come with the football league chairman, Greg Clarke, giving us this.

Basically, the indication is, if we are not out of admin by this summer our football league status is done: 'Portsmouth are at the last chance saloon. They can't enter another season in administration. So they either sort themselves out before the start of next season or they are out of the Football League.

'The Football League has given them every opportunity and the administrators have given them every opportunity for the fans to buy the club - they are now the preferred bidder.

'They are going to the High Court. They are trying to get a deal which they can afford on the stadium so they'll have somewhere to play football.

'And we are hopeful, because there are a lot of committed people in Portsmouth trying to get this right and end up with a fan-owned club that will operate the club in the long term interests of continuing football in the city and the Football League are right behind that.'

Like I say I think most of us knew, or at least thought, this would be the case.

We are heading towards the direction that we would be sent anyway but what another kick in the guts it would be to be thrown out!

To think that, had we been liquidated - which of course we still could - we could have been at virtually such a level anyway as a re-formed club without the baggage.

The PST says that the bid remains on track, concluding as soon as possible has always been the case but now we know for sure that a deadline of this summer is needed or we start next season in non-league, as opposed to league one, or league two as seems more likely at this point anyway...

Mr Clarke's patronising comments are a statement of the bleeding obvious and are spectacularly badly timed. Does he somehow think PST is trying to prolong the administration? He has even got his facts wrong. It is the administrator - not the PST - who is "going to the High Court" to try to overcome the last obstacle. And we are only probably less than a week away from knowing the outcome. If this is the quality of thinking in the Football League, then I despair.
