'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Positive thinking

Much has been said about 'positive thinking' here on Vital Pompey (in the forum) of late - or the lack of it and a need to be a bit more upbeat, positive about things and not be so down in the dumps!

Of course what something is, is what it is. In some ways this cannot be changed and you cannot be 'positive for the sake of being positive' but sometimes a situation is what you make of it...

It goes without saying, for as long as his contract lasts, Johnny Ertl will continue to get paid - and I suspect this is pretty well too! - but I liked his views in The News today.

Words are easy to express, but his words come across as coming from someone that 'wants to be here' and that is what we need at this juncture. They were also great leadership words, and with him as the current captain you need someone to lead by example and do as he has.

Alas these words need to be followed up with actions but; to be fair, I feel that Ertl has been producing the goods on the field more than a fair few others. Yep, he is a 'no frills' type but offers us something in a variety of positions and 'gives his all', which is another of the things we need.

Ertl, as far as I am concerned, has done nothing to hurt his reputation and has further enhanced my belief that he is one of those that I am glad we have kept, and hope we do so for the foreseeable...

I agree with that, Rug. Wants to be here, positive thinking, wants to lead by example, and realistic - all good qualities.

Good job someone wants to be here!! Ertl has the right spirit both on and off the pitch - shame he is a little limited as a player though.
