End of the line for Benson

Remaining at Pompey is what Paul Benson says is his preferred option although his time with the club will be coming to an end next week...

Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio has made it clear to him that, as much as he appreciates his effort for the club, his future lies away from The County Ground but it will not be at Fratton Park.

His current loan deal ends next week with Di Canio refusing to grant an extension to this.

Having turned down Bradford another league two club has put forward an offer for him with Di Canio urging him to accept this.

Unless Benson is released, and therefore becomes a free agent, there is no way that he will be joining Pompey - being released does not look as though is going to be the case for the 33-year-old though.

In all honesty Benson, though seemingly improving, has not quite had the impact I was hoping for so if we cannot keep him we cannot keep him and he will move on with me wishing him well.

Sign off with a goal or two this weekend though please...

Shame. He's too good for league 2 I think. Given some more game time he could have become something for us.

Key thing is he is 33 and does not offer much to Pompey same as Connolly at 35. But we have to get what we can I suppose and Benson had experience. Still as wiggy says 'Next!'
