'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Quartet 'given 7-days notice'

The News reports that a number of players have been told they will not be getting new contracts, with them given '7-days notice'.

It is said that Jon Harley, Brian Howard, Lee Williamson and Mustapha Dumbuya have all been told they can leave...

These guys are among the highest earners - if not the highest! - at the club so this latest 'cost cutting measure' should not really come as a surprise, should it?

Harley has had his moments but, for me, has been far too lightweight and a shadow of the player he once was.

Howard, well the least said about him the better!

Williamson, my views on him were shared recently. Perhaps a shift to a central role saw a slight improvement, but only slight and I do not think he will be missed.

Dumbuya is a mixed bag. Started the season so brightly but has faded badly and I suspect he was one that had his eye on a departure this month anyway?

All 4 almost certainly have been earning bloody good money, on the whole saying they have 'been earning' is probably not accurate and I welcome them moving on and some of the development squad stepping up in their place!

Perhaps these guys - assuming the development squad players do move up, which you would think they will? - might not be ready, are not experienced blah, blah, blah but I sure as hell suspect we will get much more effort and commitment from them and that is all I ask...

I'm prepared to lose more than we win for the rest of the season (en route to Division 3) so if the 'development squad' can come in and lose as badly as the current lot but with more commitment and less pay, all the better. I couldn't have stood watching this bunch for the rest of the season.
