Strikers galore! Will any come to Pompey?

Strikers galore! Will any come to Pompey?

'Rumours' had built in recent days that Marko Futacs could return to Pompey on loan?

Well Guy Whittingham has put this to bed today, an inability to be able to fund his wages make a loan return from Leicester a no go...

I liked Futacs, he was a decent enough player but if he did not fancy playing for us in league one as a player we owned why would he be more willing to as a loanee?

That is forgetting actually affording his wages! I guess if Leicester covered most and he had come in short-term it would have put him in the shop window...

Alas, this is not to be although another former striker, from way back, could well make a 'surprise' return to Fratton though?

Funnily enough I was just thinking about James Keene the other day - I think it might have been his birthday last week on the 'on this day' perhaps? - and wondering what he was up to!

Well, now I know...

Known well to be Whittingham and Andy Awford the 27-year-old has been playing in Sweden - I did know that - but spent some time training with us last month, with Whittingham confirming to The News that he is 'trying to get him'.

Any deal would be 'complicated', as you would expect with Pompey, but if a deal can be done with Elfsborg then it is something the caretaker team would like to do.

On a day with plenty of striker talks it was also confirmed that Danny Hylton, who plays for Aldershot but has been 'linked' to Pompey, is not on the 'Pompey radar'.

Whereas if a deal can be done with Swindon for Paul Benson the striker is still keen to join us permanently, having rejected a move to Bradford as he wants to join us.

For Benson to join us I would think that he would need to become a free agent, as would Keene, as 'long-term loans' are not something we can do and any thoughts of any fee, no matter how minimal, is never gonna happen - and should not happen! - for sometime...

wanted keene to stay when he left...
it could be argued that he did not really prove anyone wrong but at this level and with his level of 'effort' and 'committment' along with the fact HE WOULD want to play for us, if possible then a good deal, right?
