'If It's Football, It's Vital'

As expected keeper signing confirmed

It had been no secret that Phil Smith had been training with us this week.

Also, it was no real secret, that the free agent was 'poised' to sign for us ahead of the weekend game with Tranmere too.

Finally, late this afternoon, The Pompey Site confirmed that the 32-year-old had signed a 1-month contract with us.

Guy Whittingham said: 'he's trained with us this week and looked good considering he hasn't done much since the summer.

'We've brought him in because of the vast amount of experience he can offer us. He's also got a great work ethic and has a desire to do well.'

Smith had been with Swindon until the end of last season, after 6-years with them he was released and had remained without a club until now.

It is not thought he will come straight into the starting 11 as Simon Eastwood should be given the nod against Tranmere tomorrow...
