Ref Swap - Pompey v Manchester City
Chris Foy, who was originally scheduled for this match, is now going to officiate in the match at Stamford Bridge between Chelsea and Middlesbrough. Mike Dean from Wirral takes over the match at Fratton Park.
Mike has officiated in 19 matches this season for the Premiership, during that time he has issued 65 yellow cards and shown his red card five times, putting him at seventh place in the Referees Table.
He has presided over Portsmouth once this season, which was the 3-0 defeat against City`s neighbours United at Old Trafford. Pompey`s Sean Davis was the only player to have his name taken that day. City have seen him twice; this was at home to Sheffield United which resulted in a 0-0 draw, the other match was their 3-1 win at Villa Park when they overturned a resurgent Aston Villa, who had Gareth Barry booked.
Mike began referring at local level back in 1987, making the grade of Football League Referee in 1997. He became a Premier League Referee in 2001 and went on to officiate in the 2004 FA Trophy and also the FA Community Shield between Arsenal and Manchester United. He was also the Championship Play Off Final referee in 2006.
Mike lists his interests and hobbies as golf, running, swimming, gardening, cinema, driving and horse racing.

the article isn't a case of caring who the ref is Matt, just an introduction as to who the referee is, similar to the match preview. I cannot quite understand why you feel it is of little importance, so if you feel it is not worth adding to this site then I will ensure that it stops.

Its nice to see an article about the ref, so no, dont stop the article. I think, like me, the Who Cares, refers to peoples comments of doom and gloom that normally follow the article.

as one of the doom and gloom merchants that dont agree with Midge and everything in the garden is rosey i would like to say I'm intrested in the referee.Im not intrested in those who criticise other people for pointing out some plain facts.

The plain facts are that it hasnt matterd who the ref is, the pompey players havnt been trying!! Still, forgive and forget, i hope they roll up thier slleves tomorrow and get stuck in. I like these articles knowing who the ref is though, but TPB, if you find out it's graham poll can you leave it off then to stp it ruining friday night! lol.

Pompey 4 me I agree about your plain fact but i am intrested to know who the Ref is although i hope Midge will agree some of the assistant refs seem to be our biggest issue at the moment and i dont know who any of them are. ...re Graham Poll stop it now!!! he is not an egotistical tw@ he's simply misunderstood.

Pompey4me - can't see the point if a co-journalist doesn't see the need for it. This is a team affair so as a result if a team member feels it's not worthwhile then something else will be done instead.

He was awful, how can he book Cole for such a stupid thing like not walking over to him when summoned then only book Barton the Plastic Gangsta for ending Mendes' season early? Then to rub salt into the wound, he "sends off" Harry after he went into the officials changing room to complain about the attack on Mendes? Mike Dean, you are the weakest link - don't ever come back!!
