Change It Harry!

Change It Harry!

Change It Harry!

I fully recommend that Harry Redknapp changes the formation that Portsmouth play at home. Ok so the strikers are by no means firing on all cylinders, but how many chances have they had?

Charlton and Middlesborough came to Fratton Park and played five across the middle. This prevented Portsmouth playing passing football and we resulted to long ball tactics.

Long Ball

It doesn`t work for us! Charlton, Bolton, Middlesborough and Tottenham all forced us to play direct football and we didn`t win any of them. Why doesn`t it work? Well Kanu isn`t the best at heading, Andy Cole never jumps, Benjani doesn`t look at the ball if it`s in the air and Lua Lua can`t direct headers to team mates.

I`m not having a go at the team because a lot of the time they are forced to play long balls. We are doing it more of late though, probably due to the current lack of confidence within the side.

We always play 4-4-2 and teams have worked out how to beat us. All they do is get men behind the ball and pressure our midfielders. The defence then can`t pass it into our midfielders so result in "hoofing" it long, to attackers that can`t head the ball.

What Should we do?

I`m open to ideas. I don`t think it matters as long as we change, don`t fix what isn`t broke, we`ll it is broke! Maybe play three up-front but I think that will just encourage more long balls and one less midfielder to pass to.

If I was Harry

I would play David James in goal

Back three of Sol Campbell, Linvoy Primus and Noe Pamarot

Wing backs Matt Taylor (left), Lauren (right)

Three two Midfielders Pedro Mendes and Sean Davis

Attacking midfielder Niko Kranjcar or Gary O`Neil just behind strikers

Up-Front I would play Benjani and Lua Lua

……………………………………………………..

I would drop Glen Johnson, I don`t think he`s been playing well enough. I also think that Gary O`Neil doesn`t play well in the middle with Mendes, requiring one or the other to play (in this formation). This formation would enable Pompey to pass the ball through midfield. This could also be adapted should Pompey take the lead- Kranjcar can go to left midfield and Lua Lua can go to the right. I know that Kranjcar hasn`t been performing to his full ability; he is however, our most creative player and that is what we are missing.

People say we need a goal scorer (I agree) but I think we lack a creative midfielder more. Something that Niko does for Croatia but not for Pompey.

We do need to change it- we are third from bottom in the form table at the moment and have scored two goals in five games.

This is just my opinion and the wonderful thing about Football is everyone has an opinion and I want to hear yours…

Spurs and Man City tried wing backs and it didn't really work for them. We too tried it in our first season for a while but again it didn't really work. Whilst I agree it would be excellent if we could use wing backs, I don't feel the Premiership is the place for it as too many sides play five across the middle anyway now which practically kills off the game as a spectacle. I agree we need someone to play just behind the front line, like Merson did for us and that should really be someone like Niko, as you mention. But we all know Harry has his favourites and will never drop any of them unless they are injured. What they really need is 3 million volts shoved up their backsides to wake them up a bit! 1-1-9 as played by West Ham at Villa park in the final two minutes of the game, nothing for 88 mins and bang they had their best spell of the match with this formation. You should try it lol

Lol!!! Remember Watford in the Carling Cup when Zajec had another of his weird moments? We played 4-6-0 to start with, very odd!

Well youve hit the nail on the head, it's teams stopping us from playing thats the problem, far from resorting to the long ball to counteract it we need to resort to a short patient passing game and work the openings. That would need the fans to be patient as well as all to often i think the fans getting impatient is the trigger for the players to resort to long balls over the top. We have a good passing game we need to make more of it.

I doubt changing the captain would accomplish anything if we don't start to do what we're good at.

Agree on Sol being capt. If he wants it. Gary has enough on his plate, keeping his game on top spot without worrying about what everybody else is doing. PS don't give it dejan.

Match highlights - Pompey 0-1 Orient

Disappointing as it was, you take the rough with the smooth and cannot gloss over things when they aren't so good so here goes with the 1-0 defeat Pompey suffered against Orient.

Simply not good enough!

Call me a moaner, call me a groaner but if you think the performance against Orient was good enough then I think you're wearing blue tinted specs as that was poor from Pompey.
