Lauren Signs For Pompey!!

Lauren Signs For Pompey!!

Lauren has completed his move from Arsenal to Portsmouth. He has joined on a two and a half year contract and has signed for an undisclosed fee.

Lauren is a right back; which causes Harry Redknapp somewhat of a dilemma. Glen Johnson, all be it on loan, has been fantastic for Portsmouth this year and could consider himself very unlucky should he be dropped. Lauren can play on the right of midfield but Gary O`Neil currently occupies that position.

He won`t go straight into the Pompey starting eleven after being out for so long with a serious knee ligament injury. No doubt about it though, this is a fantastic signing for Portsmouth Football Club.

An ideal eventual replacement for on-loan Johnson. I'm not at all bothered by the fact that we now have two decent RBs scrapping for the first team place, Lauren would be cleared of injuries by summer and would have a lot more clubs after him by then. The only snag for Lauren is that when Chelsea send a player off on loan they say that the player is good enough to eventually play at Stamford Bridge and expect to see the player on the first team squad, otherwide they won't learn how good the player can be. Still, Lauren is like another Sol Campbell for the back four.

HR says he can play in a number of positions along the back four. Centre half? Left back? That would be useful in case Djimi fails to shine.

Quote from a couple of years ago: "I will play wherever, whether it is right-back, right midfield, in the middle, I don't care."

Main man for Pompey? I wouldn't think so

Harsh? Maybe, but do I really feel ex-Middlesbrough, Doncaster and Oldham forward Main will be in Pompey's 1st team, becoming a key member of Jackett's starting XI? Well, no.

Interest in Plymouth midfielder? Unfortunately not

Apparently, having stolen the League Two title from Plymouth, we'll not be taking the Pilgrims' best player, ex-Celtic midfielder Carey, currently out-of-contract at Home Park.
