The Kanu Clause

Harry Redknapp has recently revealed that a clause within Kanu's contract should allow Pompey to extend his contract into a second year. I thought this was common knowledge with it being revealed or at least partly revealed when the Nigerian signed but obviously it can't have been?

"I took him a week before the season started and I was the only one who took a gamble," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

"He came here and he's been absolutely brilliant for us. He has scored 10 goals. We love him here and we are looking to keep him here next season."

"We are trying to do a deal to secure him this year and I think we have an option for next year if he plays 20 games - he's probably played that as he's been involved in almost every game this year."

"So I think the second year would click in anyway."

The clause or apparent clause would have kicked in so any fears that he would be able to talk to interested parties ahead of a free transfer in the summer have been put to rest haven't they? Any move would now involve a fee. In any case Redknapp is insistent that offering Kanu a new deal is a priority, with a clause in a contract why would he need to?

There is always something with Pompey isn't there things are never cut and dried.

When the KANU sailed into Pompey Harbour we thought it would be PLAIN SAILING. Now who is trying to SINK his stay. Players these days move around faster than revolving doors. Surely we have claims to his services.

I understand from the papers that he is to stay and was simply agitating to secure TWO years following family pressure.

Its proably the media extracting the words from Kanus sentence about prefering to be given a deal now, as opposed to July (If Pompey already have decided he is likely to stay another year), so he can move here and save commuting. But the Papers extractions of players words always end up saying. I am not happy here, Harry is Crook, Sasha has no money. Storrie is a lady in drag, and Pompey are all Scummers. I dont know why the papers have this need to sink us? There are actually 19 other premiership teams in the Premiership, isnt it about time they let them have some joy in the Media gutter press and left us alone for a bit?

My thinking is though if he has a clause in his deal why should we be looking to offer him a new deal? The clause would have already kicked in so use that he'll be covered for next season won't he? Clauses are an agents dream that's all...
