Harry: I Can't Bring Toddy Back

Harry: I Can't Bring Toddy Back

Harry Redknapp has told the local paper that he can`t recall Toddy from his loan spell at Wigan, but would have. He is worried with Pompey only having two fit strikers until January.

He said;

'I've now got only two fit strikers. I've got Benjani, who is playing with a sore knee, and Kanu. That's it. That's a big problem. Lualua and Andy Cole are both going to be out for a while.

'I might have to play with one behind a striker who is not a front-man, or one-up-front in a 4-5-1 system.
'Todorov is on loan at Wigan and not getting a game. I can't get him back. I would if I could, but it's a loan until January, without a recall.

'So it's a case of wrapping Kanu and Benjani in cotton wool for the next month, hoping they get through games. If we can keep going for another three or four weeks, we'll be all right.

'I haven't spoken to the owner, but I'm sure I'll be able to bring someone in January if we can find a couple of players. But if everyone is fit, I'm happy with my strikers.'

Coz he cant even get a game at wigan??? Doesnt that tell you something. We all Love Toddy but the club have moved on and up since his terrific season, and i hoped Wigan may be able to make him feel wanted by giving him a home. but they havnt and therefore it must point to sadly, Toddy doesnt have what he did before his ops. Shame, but life moves on sometimes. Wish him all the luck though i dont see him being a Pompey player for much longer.

i agree Midge,he had a great season for us in our promotion season,but the one ingredient missing from his armoury that is absolutely crucial for top premiership strikers,in my opinion,is pace,and,sadly, Toddy is lacking significantly in that area. i still love the guy though,and his loyalty to us is commendable,but as you rightly say,as a club we have moved onwards and upwards and unfortunately he is surplus to requirements. Good luck wherever you go Toddy !!

I suppose 5 strikers in Aug/Sept might have seemed too many but with LL & Cole injured now as they were then giving Toddy away did surprise us all.

Regardless of pace Toddy has proved that he can score at this level with his goals in the latter half of last season. He would be quite considerably better than nothing!!

The loan was the public face of a sell but I agree with CharlieChimes and lets be honest he is a more than capable poacher. Toddy was injured and now Wigan have started to pick up points he cant get in their team, does that mean he is bad? No of course not, same thing happens all the time. Tell me midge what is the point of pacey strikers that dont score or wont pass, and by the way take a look at his last season goals to chances rating and tell me apart from Kanu which other striker we have is anywhere near it. Not Cole, Certainly not LuaLua and definetly not Benjani. Krunchie is not scoring and Fernandes hardly plays. Neither Cole nor Lualua ever seem to be fit enough to play, but anyway Harry has always wanted a team with Cole in it so Toddy had to pay the price, Have you seen enough of tantrum Lua Lua or Cole to be sure it's worth it to the team?
