'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sol: Liverpool Draw Huge

Sol Campbel has told the News that he was happy with the Liverpool result and has defended Pompey's tactics.

He said:

'It was a great result. We dug in and worked so, so hard.

'The boot split, it had gone completely around the sides. I couldn't go on like that.

'I wanted studs but instead a pair of moulded boots came up. I'm not going to run around with one boot with studs, one with moulds.

'I want to be balanced perfectly when running around, but fortunately we didn't suffer because of it.

'It's not easy coming to Anfield and getting anything, especially after the defeat at Newcastle. We had to bounce back and respond.

'I suppose the bookies lost lots of money on this one. They'll see this as a strange result, but as long as you set your stall out properly you've got a chance anywhere.

'Everyone dug in, everyone did their job. We put the work in, we stuck to it - no-one shirked anything. We absolutely gave our all. It was a really good display from the whole team.

'You have got to give yourself a bit of credit. We'd lost five on the bounce away from home going into this one.

'Against Newcastle we didn't play as a team. Against Liverpool we definitely did.

'People might say we sacrificed a bit of creativity and yes I suppose we did. But a couple of times we ventured forward and with the right ball or decent cross, there was always somebody who would have been in.

'Next up we have Villa and there are no easy wins out there. But if you realise you have to work, you have every chance of getting something out of a game.'

Fantastic point at Liverpool & it will look even better if we can lick Villa 2morrow.

Must beat Villa at home otherwise those recent losses will really hurt. Can't let them go above us, it's 3 points we must get at home. They don't have great scorers in the team but our defence can hold out

The platform can be set for SAFETY BY XMAS with 3 home wins and a loss at Arsenal. It's a long time since we beat Villa, in fact our first ever game in the Prem. so we need to do it again. 2-1 for me.

Remember that day like it was yesterday! But how times have changed... Three points was important today but a point wasn't a bad one really.
