Halford: Come Sign Me

Halford: Come Sign Me

Colchester United defender Greg Halford admits he wants a move to the Premiership in January, with Portsmouth thought to be interested in the 21 year old.

Sheffield United made a bid for him on transfer deadline day in August but that bid was rejected. Halford is out of contract this summer and on the transfer list at Layer Road, as they try and get some money from a player that would leave on a free.

Halford said;

'I want to play well for Colchester for as long as it takes but I don't hide the fact that I want to play as high as I can.'

'I have had to get used to people watching me,' he explained. 'Over the past couple of years I have let it get to me and my performances have dropped but I don't let that happen any more.

'Sheffield United came in for me at 2pm on transfer deadline day and that has been the only concrete bid to come in.

'When that was rejected I felt a little low but I have bounced back from that and just got on with the job.

'I am not aware of any other approaches since the summer. People read newspapers and see me linked with other teams but nothing concrete has come in since Sheffield United.'

I don't know a lot about the guy but he could certainly be one for the future as well as present if he's that good? Being 21 he wouldn't be able to leave for free though would he? Bosman rules would mean some fee would be involved wouldn't it...

Yep but i he is well rated so i would think there would be a bidding war anyway. if we are serious then whilst we are in 6th place and Sheffield United are not we should contact CU and fix an agreement that would come into force in January.

If he is that good then Pompey should agree a price now with the view he joins us for the start of next season as this lad wants to stay loyal to Colchester United thus helping CU establish themselves as a Championship team.

Not sure why he would consider Sheff Utd they might be playing Colchester next season. Get him before the other do.

Hartlepool (a) - Safety first!

A win at Wimbledon made sure of a play-offs place. Technically we can finish in the top 3 but this would require an unlikely set of results from too many clubs wouldn't it?
