Pompey to Give Man U the Blues?

Old Trafford looms large on the horizon once again, results don`t tend to tilt towards Pompey favourably at the theatre of nightmares, the last win 49 years ago is testimony to that statistic.

Pompey`s superb start to the season built mainly on the defensive stability at the back will have to re-organise this weekend, Linvoy`s dodgy hamstring has seen to that, and Glen Johnsons`s thigh puts him also in doubt, this could see a surprise recall for Andy O`Brien to partner Sol, and for Pamarot at right-back. Pamarot will certainly have his work cut out trying to keep a rampant Ronaldo quiet, the Portugese has been in scintillating form since the world cup, and Master Rooney seems to have rediscovered his midas touch at just the wrong time also.

But hang on, don`t we have the Premierships top scorer in Kanu? Unlikey it may have seemed at the start of the season, but seven goals speak for themselves, and don`t we possess one of the Premierships most competent midfielders in Mendes? Pedro is worth a 7 out of 10 score in every game he plays and will be looking to add to his collection of long range beauties again come Saturday afternoon.

Early indications are pointing to a 4-1-4-1 formation against Fergies men, Kanu to warm the bench, and the ever willing Benjani to plough a lonely furrow up-front, with Fernandes to step into midfield with Davis and Mendes to play in front of the back four. This may look negative on paper, but Pompey have the ability to break at pace, and also a strong looking attacking bench to exploit tired legs late in the second half.

Much will depend on which Manchester United turn up on Saturday, the team which is setting the pace in the Premiership, or the lacklustre complacent team of Wednesday night who lost out in Copenhagen , much will also depend on the carnival surrounding Alex Fergusons 20th anniversary in charge and how this will over shadow proceedings on the pitch. I wish Fergie all the best for his celebrations, but hope they will be soured by a blue crest on the Old Trafford pitch.

P.S memo to Pamarot, look out for that Ronaldo bloke, he tends to run at you.

Good luck Pompey. coz you aree gonna neeed it, they will thrash ya, if you are no carefull.
wei, wu and shu
have you seen the team we are putting out ? There is no speed or mobility in the defence we are probably going to get stuffed 4-0. if we sit back we will get hammered. Why are we playing the loan non scoring striker.
two nil down already!!
2 minutes mr mobility gives away a penalty. we are up for a tonking here
5? 6?
your bloody right it's on 5 live
somebody said i was on the box, i thought it was 4 pm kick off
lol yer they are just having a warm up match
somebody said IT (as in the game) was on the box.
whats clear from the various pundits Paul is that Dejan cannot continue as captain and he is simply not mobile enough for this level. According to sky he is not leading the line, and is allowing Gary Neville of all people to stand around 6 yards out of our area, Dej needs to get a grip.
dejan is playing centre back, thats his position, so...
its half time we are 2-0 down but at last we have had a decent shot
yer all over them for those 4 seconds
hey admin!! LoL what do you think of the new James, Dej, Pamarot, Taylor, Mendes, 1 2 2 erm is there anyone elso out there formation??? , i get it now, we are trying to lull ManU into a false sense of security. then we really confuse em by taking off Mendes
dont under estimate the power of those 4 seconds, ah !! and i hear we have a striker on the pitch
By the sounds of it we don't want to win. After all the bulls**t we have had this week about Davis not scared of Old Trafford we look like rabbits in head-lights. We have a defence that is playing like last season.
yer it does, three nil down on comes lua. 4-0 lol
Imagine the scoreline if we had anyone else in goal other than David James
rugby score
The performance is very embarassing I think, it now shows the gulf between us and the Champions league teams and at present we are sat in a Champions league spot. The teams really needs to pick it's self up from this game put it behind us and start preparing for Fulham & Watford's visit to Fratton Park.
I'm amazed it was only 3 nil
yer same, good result lol. Think you're right lets forget about it
you've got no hope!! easy win for them I'm afraid to say!
2nd Half performance sounded better on the radio but I think we went back to our old ways of last season, not defending set pieces. By the sounds of it Dejan had a mare AGAIN and was at fault for all 3 goals. Saying that you don't become a bad team overnight and our back four was missing by 75%
Sod this game. Never going to be easy with a full team, let alone no defence. Thank heavens for Jamo. Need to get ourselves right for the home games with Fulham & Watford, who both won today.
WHY did we play 4-5-1????? WHY! and WHY did we play o'brien, where was campbell and kanu the two most INFLUENTIAL players in our team! we could have given man u a good game, yet we decided to field a crap side with no defensive qualities and we paid the price. i watched the game, i almost turned it off after first half. why did we put lualua on instead of campbell and krunchy hasnt won playing for us, playing him and fernandes in the same game ISNT working, why are we trying to rotate the squad? its not working, we are not a big squad, we must field 1st team EVERY game and deal with consequences of injury/suspension when it arises! i feel our slump will begin now, still aim for top 10 though.
pompey pessimist
its all about mentality, if there were 3 games to go before end of season and we needed at least 7 pts to not get relegated i bet we would have the mentality to win today, but now we are succumed to be a mediocre midfield team and it sucks. pompey must play to WIN ALL GAMES, incl cups etc. it pisses me off seeing complacency creeping in, cmon 'arry, we know you have more grit than that! [sorry im in a miffed mood today]
pompey pessimist
I can see your point PP, seems arry was doing the "resting" bit so we got a fit squad for the Fulham & Watford games, I see his logic but I do want to see has have a go at ALL teams! ManU are lookin awsome though, they did woop Bolton 4-0 at the reebok, so with our "weak" defence, i guess we did ok???? come on PP, if we get six points out of the next 2,, this result wont seem to bad
O'brien is not even a perm player! I really want him out, i am s**tting myself any time i here hes coming in!!!..the side out today wasnt even close to our best side, could have been different
ment to say prem...not perm..u guys r gonna rip me apart now arnt you!
campbell had a virus and couldn't play, O'brien is the only other player in the squad- he cleared one off the line and made a great tackle when someone was about to score
haha charliechimes i think you've done that yourself mate lol
go to the forum to watch the goals
david james made some great saves
If you don't have any depth in your squad you don't send the likes of Griffin & Duffy out on loan. If we kept Priske who most fans thought done an excellent job in getting to safty last season we would of had cover for when this situation arose. Harry only has himself to blame for playing 4-5-1 with 3 strikers 1 midfielder and a goalie on the bench
nelson a bit wiser with your headings next time, its asking for trouble!!
But due to O'Briens lack of concentration we conceded the (non-existant) penalty! Rooney got 4 yards on him before O'brien chased him down. It just seems every time hes around we are real shakey. Dont get me wrong ManU will never be easy, but as long as O'brein is our first option of the bench, I wont be happy. Totally agree with Nelson though, should have kept Priske, saying that, I recall he wanted first team every week so I guess that wouldnt have worked.
Hey Charlie C its Sunday morning i'm here in the city of London just logged on and all i can think about is.... woooo hooo charlie C how's your perm, is it all down n disco ?.....Sadly i have a suburban disappointed of surbiton i told you so look on my face. Those people who kept telling me what a great depth of squad we have, can they now agree we have if you want to finish 4th from bottom !! But,. not if you want to maintain somewhere around our current lofty position 8th or above we clearly have not. We seem over loaded and confused in midfield, Krunchie missed another sitter and every first half is quite simply lazy... perhapse Andy Croat can advise. Fernandes, is not there yet.... Doula may as well not be at all, O'Neil seems to be down this season and we are left with a defensive type in Hughes, however i think Chris has it right and unlike at Chelsea Harry didnt get this one wrong, he let it Priske, mobility of Dejan, O'Brien and defensive support for Campbell, please refer to my many previous rants .
russ ure in surbiton???! lol. did someone say campbell had a cold?! WTF.... oh diddums, wrap him up in cotton wool shall we, id rather have a sniffly campbell than a loose o'brien. o'brien/stef in central defence is NOWHERE NEAR primus/campbell! man utd must have known this hence their amazing fast flowing football killing us early on. playing benji on his own up front was ludicrous, he is not a striker, he needs someone to link with. like i said earlier, you cant mix lots of inexperienced players into the same team. either krunchy/fernandes should play, not both. after 2-0 we never really got back in to it. after all the hype stef/davis gave, neither got into the game
pompey pessimist
you could of done without losing your main defenders for any game but its especially hard with the form man utd are in at the moment. Dodgy penalties don't help either!
Hey Russ, im never gonna live this perm thing down, im sure if i did have one it would soon become the hight of fashion! (-: well, i love arguing but, seems we all agree 4-5-1 with benjani, yes benjani up front on his own was madness!!!!!!!... pompey pess makes a good point, krunchy & fernandes together seemed a little silly, krunch looked a little lost. well im off to curl my hair now!
charlie C im down, ndigginwhatyersayin, 4,5,1 thats the steps to the nmber 1 perm dance the funky benji or was it chikin missin.... damn i got this desperate urge to find original 45's of supernature or funky town or i feeel luuuuuurve, luuuuuurve. luuuuuuuuuurvvvvvvveeee repeat songs for chicks collection. late 70's waterloovile chicks didnt really go for cream, or deep purple or lynard skynard or queen or me for that matter.
now im feelin funky!!! might pop down flares this weekend & show of my new hair doo!!!! anyone got a spare afro comb?...might even try Benjis tight dredds to get the ladies!!!...just checked sky sports news, the gooners are still drawing with the hammers 0-0, there going to pass us if it stays this way..GET DOWN!!!
I think the penalty decision was harsh, but the massive gulf in class between us was there for all to see. Real men v boys stuff i'm afraid. Still, onwards .........
So if Benjani is the worser of our 4 strikers we play him up front alone, Redknapp was expecting a 3-0 defeat then.
Still 4th with the Arse kicked...bring on Fulham, Watford and the Toon.
for russellm..... niko is not good, i don't now why, but i must say that .... he isn't bad player, maybe he need some time.... in the past he never played on the left side, but now in national team and for pompeys play... but I belive in him..... and now one thing.... you play against MU, they are very strong... for strong team you need a time for build it, in croatia many people was watch this game because one of national tv have live, in prematch show, ROBERT PROSINECKI spoken about his time in Portsmouth, that was 4 years ago and you play in second league... now you are 4th in premier, you must be realistic, but you on excellent way to be very big club and just one thing, Prosinecki was said that you have the best suportters in Premier league.... sorry for my bad english....
andy croat 27
no problem andy, i agree that Krunchie needs time, and we cannot blame him for a defeat against a great Man U. What concerns me is that he does not seem in the game until the second half.
