Pompey to ring changes in cup clash

The Carling cup, maybe the lesser of the cup competitions as far as most Premiership teams are concerned, but for those of us who dream of silverware, it`s a very important route to Europe and a cup final, hardly things us Pompey fans are used to, 1939 for a final, and never in Europe (Anglo-Italian not included). Newcastle have made a few more finals than us, but their cupboard is just as bare, Europe has been dabbled with, with modest success.

Pompey started well in the cup last year only to fall to Watford when the route to Cardiff looked open, so maybe this is the cup to target as most of the so called big boys concentrate on their European campaigns and let their youth teams tackle the Carling. Newcastle however will fancy making good progress as well, so Pompey had better not take it too lightly at St.James` as we could get a spanking. Fringe players such as Duala and Koroman will be looking to start along with others such as Cole and Lua Lua who are still finding their fitness after injury, and Fernandes will could do with another run out to continue his settling in period.

Cardiff beckons, and I for one would love a day out in Wales, 67 years is a long time to sample a final, never in my lifetime, and never for the vast majority of blue and white followers.
So come on Pompey, take the game to the toon, and take another step nearer Cardiff, and more importantly another step up the progress ladder and Premiership respectability!

Play up Pompey
Paul

Les you were robbed on the pick the score - late goal. Better result now looms when we go back there shortly - perhaps only a narrow loss !! Only joking - we are going to win.

2016-17 Champions Review: April

Pompey had a 6 point gap and were playing as good as they had all season, but with 7 games remaining, not even the most optimistic fan could have predicted how it would unfold.

2016-17 Champions Review: March

Every season has its highs and lows. The draw at home to Morecambe was a body blow for Pompey, but little did we know that the next home game against Crewe was to be our turning point.

Done and dusted - O'Brien joining Coventry

Academy graduate O'Brien, who went on to play for Barnet, Brentford and Dagenham following his release by Pompey, will leave Fratton Park again - he'll link up with Doyle at Coventry.
