Sol Campbell has become the latest player to back David James`s England push. I think that it`s time McClaren grew up and selected him. It doesn`t look like Sol Campbell will get back into the squad but David James on this much form, why not?
Campbell said;
'We fought hard against Chelsea. We gave our all and there were some good moments. David James played brilliantly. He's unbelievable at the moment, unbelievable.
'I think he should be back in the England squad. He's solid, he's focused, his work ethic is superb and he wants to do well. In fact, he's playing his best football for a long time, he really is. He's fighting to get back into the England side and you just can't keep on ignoring him.
'Jamo's playing top-notch football, you can't hide from that. All over the world there are people playing football, it doesn't matter what age. You can't keep on saying he's blah, blah, blah age and whatever - he's playing top football here and now.
'Who knows what he's going to be like in two years' time? It doesn't matter. He's playing brilliantly. Jamo wants to do well - he wants to be the best. He's playing at the top of his game, no-one can say anything else.'
Harry Redknapp, although admitting it`s unlikely, has backed David James`s ability.
He said;
'Jamo is still the best goalkeeper around in my opinion. He's so fit and enthusiastic, he'll go on for another five or six years. He's like a little kid in training, diving and messing around. Robinson's a good keeper, but after that, the other lads being picked for England are out on loan.
'I have very big belief in Jamo. People were pushing me to get a goalkeeper from Russia or wherever, but I wanted him. He makes the odd ricket, but it's rare.'
I`m calling on every Pompey fan to get to their feet Saturday to sing "England`s Number One" if enough people chant it loud enough, it will receive the required media coverage. And we all know the media picks the England squad…
