Pompey are Second (110 Bans)

Pompey are Second (110 Bans)

Arrests for football violence have dipped by 7% to 3,462. Which seems a lot to me but it shouldn`t because my club are the second worst offenders.

Leeds United have the most fans banned from attending matches. 115 fans in total are banned from attending Leeds matches.

Portsmouth are five behind with 110, followed by Cardiff City 109, Stoke City 108 and Manchester United 106.

Stoke City has seen the biggest growth in violence resulting in a banning order, with 58. With Tottenham have the highest arrest figures for last season.

Home Office minister Vernon Coaker said;

'I'm very encouraged by the new figures.

'A 7% decrease in football-related arrests coupled with a 7% increase in football banning orders shows that tough legislation and targeted policing continues to be effective.

'However, we are not complacent. Football disorder remains a lingering menace, and will not be tolerated.'

Sports minister Richard Caborn said;

'The thrill of watching football from the terraces without fear of violence is the right of the genuine majority fans and should not be compromised by the tiny minority of thugs intent on causing trouble.

'The increased numbers of families, women and children now attending matches proves that the face of the average football fan is changing for the better - making football more inclusive, friendlier and safer than ever before.'

Do you think violence is a problem at Portsmouth?

I thought West Ham had much worser fans last week. I was sitting in the lower tier of the south stand on the east side that is close to the away section of the Milton end and I started chanting 'come on you yellows!' when policemen kicked bad boy west ham fans out.

Portsmouth issued banning orders fairly easily especially during the period of Perrins departure and Rednapps return. The last football violence i saw was where i was sat in the Milton end watching hammers fans erm....hammering each other.

Pompey MotM at Rotherham

Nathan Thompson's performance was seen as the best one from a Pompey player against Rotherham in the defeat in South Yorkshire at the weekend.

Worthy of a new deal?

So, Danny Rose, as we know, isn't going to play again this season. As things stand this would mean he'll not pull on a Pompey shirt again as his contract expires in the summer.

Sickening Rotherham winner

Losing on Saturday was bad enough, the fact this was an added time winner more so. The cherry on the cake was the fact Rotherham's goal came from ex-Pompey full back Joe Mattock.
