Andy Cole: Forget Relegation Fights

Andy Cole has told Pompey fans that he doesn`t believe Portsmouth will be in a relegation fight this year and has also praised his team mate Kanu.

"You may lose half-a-yard of pace with age, but you gain half-a-yard in your head. I still feel I can score goals at the highest level. The thought that I can't has never really entered my mind."

"Just because you're older, it doesn't mean you can't score goals. If I get myself in the right position, I like to think I can score. I was trying to get half a yard on a defender."

'I did that, and it went in. It's a great feeling scoring goals - especially after you've been out a while. It doesn't change for me. I just love scoring goals. I've enjoyed every single one of my goals - and I want to keep scoring more.'

'I'm 35, but I still feel 21 when I score. I don't feel under pressure. I'm trying to enjoy it and get as many goals as I can. I'm here to take the club forward.'

'The first job is to get 40 points. Then we'll go from there. If we keep doing the things we're doing we won't get in a relegation fight. We're getting the points on the board early doors.'

'I can't believe how good Kanu is. Some of the things he can do are phenomenal. He's got six goals already, and I'm sure he'll get more.'

'It's the manager's decision whether I start games. I have no right just to come in.'

Andy Cole will go into the squad to face Chelsea hoping to pick up where he left against West Ham.

has Andrew Cole jinxed us ?????.. probably not.... so 40 points for chrimbo will do me fine.... the good news is i've just seen the first festive cards here in moorgate, this means soon it will be the january transfer window .... this in turn means we can all start to worry about something again.

With all the 'big guns' to play away up til Xmas, imperitive we win as many homes as possible, no matter how ugly. If we can get close to 30 by the end of December, we will have done very well. Man U & Chelsea may get to 40.

storagematt i agree, that's why i thought 40 would be a fabulous present. I believe though that we are capable of picking up a couple of draws against those big guns (liverpool for one) & you have to think to pick up away points against the west ham, newcastle and bolton's of this world ( i state Bolton because they have had a run of luck that we have not and we are due some soon). It is also important because at that chrimbo benchmark we will be mostly on the road and a sound defence & confidence is vital. My only January worry is still the same as my last August worry, where's the squad depth in the defence.

yep i can see a possible points at the emirates and anfield where we always give it a good go, the difference being this tiome we have a defence. perhapse its delusions but i seem to remember last season until the last 15 mins against chelski it was fair to say Peter Cech was their man of the match, lets be dreamy here, Pamarot plays out of his skin and we grab a late winner.... dream on you say... fulham have managed it, why not us?

I said before the season started in an article that I wrote that "on paper" we had the fixtures to get to, or near to 40 points but Christmas so I never feared relegation at all. we are far better than over 50% of the teams in the league now, mid table finish without doubt. Should we get near to 40 points by Christmas then we'd be looking for more...

HOPEFULLY we can claim a point at Chelsea on Saturday, that would be hell of a result. If they have their dodgy Portuguese keeper in goal then you never know, all good runs come to and end, could Chelski's...

Cudicini may be able to feature on saturday but lets not forget that he has probably lost every game (not many) that he has finished in. Good thing Chelsea have a game prior to saturday to dampen their fitness, and against Barcelona of all teams in the world...

Pompey to beat chelsea is 10-1 on bet365. Put a bet on, its likely to be our best chance so far. They have 2 knackered goalies, and a champions league game tonight. It has to be worth a couple of quid?

Chelski were real good against Barca tonight so ive put a tenner on us to win.... post CL hangover and all that. I also tried to put a bet on Drogba, diving at least once to get a player carded and this would be shown as a dive on TV. PPower havent decided if to accept it yet,( he jokingly said it was odds on anyway) so i might try ladbrookes. .

If we cannot score against Chelsea how can we win. Our only chance is 0-0 but my faithful crystal ball still keeps coming up 0-2 loss. Why oh why can't it be proved wrong.

We'll score against Chelski tomorrow I can feel it! Maybe this wont be enough to see us win, but scoring will give us a chance because as good as Chelski are we aren't too shabby at the back are we... roll on 3pm tomorrow...

given some of the away games coming up win, draw or lose i think a good performance is the main thing. there is no pressure on us to win this game however, provided fitness remains good games against newcastle. Liverpool, Bolton or West ham should be winable.
