Kranjcar V England

Kranjcar V England

As England prepare to face Croatia, Kranjcar is preparing to face England. He is likely to start in what will be a huge match for the Pompey star.

'The chance to play against England is a big one,' said Kranjcar.

'But this is the first real test for Steve McClaren and it will not be a surprise to us if we win.

'We've never beaten England. The last time we played a competitive game was in Euro 2004 and we got hammered 4-2.

'We're determined to put that right. We respect England, they have some world-class players like Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney, but we don't fear them.

'We have the players to shut them out.

'England have not played anyone of our standard yet and so hopefully we will take them by surprise.'

Harry Redknapp has warned England about Kranjcar claiming that we may have problems handling him.

"'He'll be playing against England on Wednesday and I think he's got the ability to cause us problems. He's someone we have to worry about. I've been very impressed with Niko since he's been here. He keeps the ball well and does good things."

"He's made only a couple of starts for us. But he's a very, very good footballer - and he's only 22. He's a quality player. I really like him. I think he's class. It's a huge game for both countries, but the atmosphere won't get to him. He was Dinamo Zagreb captain as a teenager and has already got 20-odd Croatian caps."

"He's a very versatile player, too. He can play wide on the left, behind the front two or in a five-man midfield as the left-sided one of the central three. He's the kind of player you want to get into your team. It will be hard to keep him out of it."

Kranjcar joined Pompey in the summer for two and a half million pounds. He made his first premiership start against Tottenham on the left of midfield. He wants to win to tease David James and Sol Campbell.

'If this match had been last year I would have been playing against Sol Campbell and David James, so it would be nice to return to Portsmouth with a smile on my face having won the game.

Niko to play well will suit me, get a taste of Terry and Ashley Cole ready for when we play Chelsea , have a go at Neville also in preparation for United, but England to win and I'll be more than happy...

It will be a test for him that's for sure. England could be in trouble but I'll stick with 1-1.

don't be so sure about result in zagreb, croatia have strong time, they are on every worl cups and european cups in last 10 years, in croatia team isn't only niko kranjcar, there are many players who play for big teams around the europe, dario simic(milan),kovac(bayern, juventus), tudor(juventus), klasnic(werder),leko(monaco), joe simunic(hertha) and some young players like LUKA MODRIC(must watch him, for me he is better than niko kranjcar).....They aren't lose last 16 years in Croatia and they was 3th in world cup '98. I don't remember when you are 3th in worl cup, perhaps becose I'm with 27 years too young to remember...... It's gona be great match..... Macedonia play bunker we don't, we always play football NIKO KRANJCAR will be play on the left side just like in portsmouth

andy croat 27 I suspect it will be a good match and i feel Croatia will win but if Krunchie plays like he did against spurs then i will again be disappointed. Obviuosly we have to allow him time to settle but so far he hasnt been brilliant has he, until the last 15 minutes at spurs he was quite lazy. Also he seems to spend a lot of time on the bench for Croatia so i wont mind seeing what we will get for our money.

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.

Swindon striker in 'Pompey's sights'

Michel Smith, who was of course on loan last season, could return? He's still in 'Pompey's sights' by all accounts after Swindon informed him he's 'surplus to requirements' now.
