Our Best Signing

Our Best Signing

On our latest Vital Pompey poll we are asking you who Pompey`s best signing was this summer. In the summer transfer window Harry bought in a whole new team worth of players, improving the depth and quality of the squad.

These signings made an instant impact, with Pompey top after five matches. This is your chance to credit a Portsmouth player (other than Linvoy) for the early impression they have made on your club.

Sol Campbell

This guy has not only improved Portsmouth`s defence but has helped everyone around him. Sol came from Arsenal on a free transfer (as the song goes). Many people believe that this man should be captain; with many more thinking England should have him in their squad.

Glen Johnson

Glen joined Pompey on loan from Chelsea after turning down a couple of teams from abroad. In my eyes he has been superb for Pompey this year and has not received the credit he deserves. Johnson has the opportunity of joining Pompey on a full time basis at the end of the season and fingers crossed he will.

Manuel Fernandes

This guy will probably receive the least amount of votes because he has only played a part in two matches. There is a real buzz around this guy! He is apparently going to become superb for our club and has been likened to Paul Ince. Manuel should play a part in the West Ham match.

David James

Somehow he isn`t in the England squad? James signed from Man City over the summer and has been very impressive so far. He`s only conceded three goals in seven games which is a superb achievement, he has probably stopped a further six goals by pulling off world class saves though.

Kanu

Received some stick after the Tottenham game for not doing enough running despite scoring Pompey`s only goal. Kanu has bagged five goals and is the third highest scorer in the Premiership. He looks good on the ball and seems to be enjoying his football on the South Coast.

Andy Cole

Only played ten minutes for Pompey so far (at Tottenham) but is likely to feature against West Ham. Although he hasn`t made an instant impact because of fitness, many people pin our goal scoring hope with him.

Our best signing by a country mile is . . . . Tony Adams!!
FEn_100
very good call Fen! As for best player has to be SC, as without him i dont think some of the others would have come and lets face he aint a bad player either :0)
danonash
yer sol campbell for me
lmatthews
FEn has hit the nail right on the head. Tony Adams has installed confidence within our team not just defence.
nelson
Player: Sol.

Wihtout doubt, Tony Adams has been the best investment Pompey have made for some time. Player wise would have to be Sol at this point in time...

Well I would like to add a thought about those we did not get but that would be a long post. I fell we have missed out on bolstering the defence more. The defence is okay but not as good as the first 5 games indicated. We are going to let in goals unless we have better cover and I have to say someone better at left back. In the first 40 seconds against Spurs our venerable capt. give the ball away twice and then waited for someone else to go for the ball in the penalty area for goodness sake showing no sense of urgency. Well that's my gripe, interested if anyone feels as I do about the defence.

Come January we'll get a left back. I was screaming to buy Gareth Barry, would have ben perfect. Complemented Matt taylor too.
storagematt
Bludy good comment Pompeyrug, and i feel we still need to get some depth in defence. ...Farlington_Road whilst we are off topic a bit i was moaning on and on and on about the same thing during the transfer window. And results mean to some extent i feel vindicated .. (LoL well i would wouldnt i) .... Matty wont stay back, Stef is not mobile enough for all games, O'Brian aint good enough for any games, Duffy aint yet as good as he thinks he is. Apart form the spurs 1st goal the boys have done THE top job but they will need a rest. One thing that sums up our squad defensive problem is, we are 4th top in the PL but bottom of the reserve team league with the worst goals conceeded tally.

Kanu get's my vote, he has been class for you guys so far this season. And deserves to be quite high in the leading scorers table.
wei, wu and shu
why isnt kranjcar included?
retro hat
you have made some excellent signing's and I think you just need to look at you defensive record to see that Campbell and James have made a huge impact.
dazza71
I think it will be Sol Campbell or Kanu as they have both made the biggest impacts at your club.
jono_forest
Being linked with Paul Robinson aren't we now... Not the England 'keeper Robinson but the West Brom left back. Not a bad player, but not the left back I would have thought of, although Thompson and even Kanu if I'm totally honest weren't first names I thought of and they've both done a good job, especially Kanu. Still Sol though for best signing, for the time being anyway, this could change...

NIKO KRANJCAR..... you will see at the maksimir stadium against England whats player is Niko
