Take Your Time Sacha

That seems to be the message from Vital Pompey members after the recent poll. The results of the poll show that fans don`t expect to have a stadium by 2008, most are willing to wait.

Poll Results- Will we have a stadium by 2008?

Yes- 32%
No- 68%

What Members Said

i think sacha will bring us our new stadium lmatthews

if the council is absolutely cooperative i dont think so but just maybe. If not then..not a bl00dy chance, 1st of all there's planning consent, once assumed planning permission, then you have your wayleave agreements. then you have your local area consultations for your nimby's. Then its the highways department, then the utilities, then fire safety, district surveyor and then transport consultations and then back to planning. In between design goes to stage E, then tendering & selection then contract pre start notice period, then assuming they want a retail park, there is the finding other buyers to capitilise the project (remember sacha has said long term the stadium must be self financing and the usual outlet suspects have all just moved into pompey village). In fact not chance russellm

You have that spot on russelm, It'll take until 2008 to decide where they might build the new stadium. nelson

I bet BARR who got the contract to build Fratton Park are really****** off. I remember Storrie saying on the radio that it wouldn't be long to build the ground as all the steel had already been cut to size and it was just a case of errecting it in place and building it up. Maybe the pikies stole the steel which is why we have no new ground LOL nelson

Stadium by 2008? Not a chance. Tantona

Give the man a chance, he has only been here 5 mins!! 1st priority was staying in the prem, he did that by splashing the cash in Jan, 2nd we have the best playing squad in my lifetime, 3rd he has bought land to build decent training facilities (more important than the ground)! The plans left by Milan are rubbish, people are/were excited by them because they are better than what FP is now, but have a look at them again, and tellme the now south stand is something to be proud of??? As long as Sascha is willing to make up the lost revenue, what does it matter about a new ground, when was the last time we sold out??? I wonder how many people that moan about not having a new ground actually go to FP??? danonash

true danonash I thought the new ground was ok but only ok, nothing to be proud of. Understood milans thinking, but agree with Sacha its not brilliant. So give the man some time, and we will all be laughing. As they say He who laffs last. Midge

Sacha won't make such an important discission as that overnight. He is still learning about our club and getting the supporters trust. He will want to now our views about the stadium and what we actually want. I personally think the earliest we can see our first league match in our new stadium will be end of 2009 season. This will be the biggest discission Portsmouth Football Club will ever make and it has to be the correct one for everyone involved. We have waited over 30 years until now a few more won't hurt as long as It happens.

I think you'll find he mortgaged the players he bought in January. So, whilst he did the deal, he didn't pay out 'loads of dosh'.
07/10/2006 13:51:00
check that out again Fen, that was only until the deal went through with Milan, he spent the money, and is continuing to do so.
07/10/2006 14:21:00
i think we can look forward to being the yeam with the worst ground in the premiership for years to come, unless a covert deal has already been struck with the council
07/10/2006 14:50:00
Depends on what your definition of worst is i guess! I like a ground where i can stand and shout my gob off and get behind my team no matter how bad or good for that matter they are, with a pub 5 mins walk away and a station 6 mins walk away. On that measurement we have the best around! But sadly i accept that others may not agree!
07/10/2006 15:29:00
i like our ground! We don't even fill it lol
07/10/2006 16:13:00
I'd rather have the worst ground in the Prem, than a good ground outside it. Though, a good ground in the Prem would be ideal. But following Pompey is not always ideal. As said already, we've waited this long, a few more years can't hurt?
07/10/2006 19:42:00
It's not that we don't want a new ground by 2008, it's the fact that we don't believe that we will have one by then.
08/10/2006 11:28:00
Why do you want a new ground anyway???????? I think Fratton Park is good enough for you.
wei, wu and shu
08/10/2006 11:52:00
I think it does need sorting out a little bit but if i was you i would be prepared to wait. Like storagematt says, he would rather be in the prem with a crap ground than be outside with a good one.
