Tony Adams: 'Not Good Enough'

Tony Adams has told The New about his disappointment in the way Pompey performed at Tottenham. He has made special criticism to the front two for not doing enough running;

'We didn't play well. It was frustrating. We didn't get any work done. It was disjointed. We were on the back foot from the start. That's disappointing."

'We've kept training very light this week. But next week we're going to get into a bit of hard work. We'll get them closing down opponents again, working hard and being tough to beat again, because frankly the performance at Spurs wasn't good enough for me."

'As a team it was our worst of the season. The front two of Kanu and Lomana Lualua didn't work at all defensively - and their stats proved that. Defending starts from the front. Kanu, off the ball, covered 50 metres in the first half. That's not good enough."

'The front two have got to work much harder. The protection wasn't there from the midfield four, either. Everyone can improve working without the ball. Come on."

'We let in a goal, got on the back-foot, were indecisive and made mistakes. It needed some big leaders to wallop it in the stands, start again and go from there."

'Once you concede, I'm looking at every single one of them to take responsibility. I jumped off the bench after 15 minutes because I couldn't hear anyone going: 'Oi, come on!' to the others."

'Even if you're not particularly playing your best game ever, you've got to go: 'Yeh, I'm having a nightmare, but I'm going to help the team here. Let's start working'.'

By the way readers in case you weren`t shore, 50 meters is about 60 yards. That`s half of a hundred meter sprint which is over in 10 seconds. It seems Portsmouth like many other clubs seem to have started to analyse performance through stats. Bolton where the first known club to do this.

50 metres in teh whole first half !! that is pretty shambolic to say the least ... true though you need to defend from the front !

i probably walk that on the train trying to find a seat lol

Tony sounds a good master so if he eventually takes over from Harry one day, then it looks very promising. A bit like Milan handing over to Sacha.
Midge
yer Tony would be a good boss and if he knows the players it will be even better

Donkey Who??? Adams couldn't run a bath you bunch of mugs. Oh thanks for the penaly by the way. That was Mendes little thank you to spurs for letting him warm our bench so long. Hahahahahahh. Don't think that because you league position now is a good one that you won't be fighting relegation again this year, along with Dowies lot and Shefield. Come on Zokora, What a penalty!!!!! Guess thats what happens when you leav your foot out in the box!!!! Can't wait to do you at your place!!!!

I for one couldn't understand why we didn't get at Spurs in the way we know we can.! I'm not so worried about the performance against Bolton.. they're a nasty team that play nasty negative football with the sole purpose in life to stop their opponents playing. Against Spurs however, we should have done much better. And as for Kanu.. we all know that he can be a bit lazy.. so its probably good that he knows that TA is watching him.
pompsk1
bet you can't but i bet you didn't even go to the match m8
lmatthews
yer agree and i bet he runs his socks off against west ham. We didn't do much attacking and we didn't fight for it as much as we normaly do
lmatthews
my comment about bet you didn't go to the match- was to bullers by the way and not pompsk1
lmatthews
He has a decent point but im sure they can sort it out before your next game.

What a t****r bullers is! What was the point in that needless comment? Why do you have to get so many muppets that can't help themselves, it's not big and its not clever, prat...

Kanu never has been one for running around but that is poor. My grandmother moved more than that on Sunday and she's been dead several years...

TA has that spot on. We all know the team can play better than that performance. Spurs were very lucky they caught us on a bad day that's all. HR & TA won't put up with that performance to often. I can't see why Lua Lua was let of the hook I thought he had a shocker. The team needs to play at 110% not 80% like on Sunday.

'bullers' is no doubt spurs speak for 'bull5h1t'. He obviously is full of it.
