Tony Adams: Two More Years

Tony Adams: Two More Years

Tony Adams (Portsmouth`s assistant manager) has said that David James and Sol Campbell not being in the England squad may help them. He believes that breaks such as next weekend, will help them prolong their careers. Adams was able to play two extra years after retiring from international football.

Tony Adams said;

'I'm pleased David and Sol haven't been called up, for Portsmouth reasons,' said Adams.

'I also think it will help the longevity of their careers. I retired from internationals in 2000, and I got two extra years out of myself - two good years at a high level. Now it's international week - and because they aren't in the international set-up, they can have a rest. It gives some of the younger guys a chance to make the step up.'

(Maybe Glen Johnson deserves a chance Steve? He obviously isn`t planning on playing anyone over the age of about 28.)

Personally, I think that it`s brilliant that Sol gets a weeks rest before the next Pompey match.

paul, im glad Tony has made the coments. Its good for the club, lets hope Glen gets his chance because that is also good forthe club if we aregoing to get the big names to come.

i think this is a bad image on the club if international players don't get in the national side at Pompey

Why would you want to run out at Old Trafford in an England shirt when you could have a rest and the following week run out of the tunnel at Fratton Park to the most vocal loyal fans this country has.

Our need is greater than any countrys including England.

I'm not so sure that the break at their ages will make a lot of difference? Maybe for Sol it will but don't think it matters so much for Jamo? It would be interesting to see if Sol in particular had still been in if he was at Arsenal? It does reflect well on the club if we have England Internationals, as although having other Internationals in the side we are an English side and as such you want to see your English players in the England team. People looking to sign will also look at this and if by coming to Pompey it hinders your England chances they won't sign...
