This article will read in between the lines of the soap opera which has Portsmouth and Southampton and football fans all over the world wondering what is going to happen next!
Well I think I have come up with a good explanation.
Firstly Portsmouth will appoint Harry Redknapp (I think!) You have to look closely at what has been said by Mandaric: 'We will now step up our interest in other candidates. I'm still confident a new man will be appointed before the end of the week.' Or should that read he is confidant that Rupert Lowe will give in by the end of the week?
Think about it from Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe’s stand point, if he keeps Harry on the pay role it will cost him two hundred and twenty thousand pounds. If he was to accept fifty thousand pounds it would cost him nothing as he would not have to pay Harry. So he would have a profit of two hundred and ninety thousand pounds! (Not Bad!) This would pay to have someone else in at least until the end of the year. If he didn’t then he would probably have to pay someone else as well. Lets say that was two hundred and twenty thousand pounds for another manager that’s four hundred and forty thousand pounds Rupert Lowe would have to pay out (I can’t see him paying that even if he hates Portsmouth.) He has also claimed that he has a good relationship with all of his previous managers so unless he lets Harry go he won’t with Harry!
Think about Milan Mandaric's side, he said this morning he “doubts it” (referring to offering more money to Southampton.) Milan knows that he is going to pay them more money, therefore does not want to be seen as a liar.
Did you notice when Sky Sports News apparently broke the story about Harry no longer being a candidate, he only told the reporter off film? As soon as he is on film he doesn’t flat out deny it. Lets face it Milan is trying to change focus to Laurie Sanchez and has been very clever! Milan mentioned Laurie’s name a while ago but did not contact the IFA. This angered them and they then threatened to report Milan for bringing the game to disrepute. Milan realised that they would win and was therefore forced to make an approach. It does not add up because he would reportable cost Milan two hundred and twenty thousand pounds in compensation. Um hang on a second that number sounds familiar. Also Milan said he should have appointed someone with Premiership experience! Um hang on a second Laurie Sanchez has league one experience. It does not add up! Milan is using Laurie Sanchez to make Rupert Lowe change his mind and realise how much it will cost him.
